- Third-quarter revenue and net profit declined as production constraints and weaker demand reduced vehicle volumes.
- Operating profit increased as favorable exchange rates, cost controls and a stronger hybrid mix supported margins.
- Hyundai lowered its 2026 wholesale, margin and automotive investment targets while keeping its revenue growth goal unchanged.
Hyundai Motor reported a mixed third quarter on October 29, 2026, with lower revenue and net profit but higher operating profit. The automaker's official results release attributed the operating improvement to favorable exchange rates, cost optimization and a product mix supported by hybrid electric vehicle sales.
Revenue and volume weakened
Revenue for the July-September period fell 3.4 percent year on year to KRW 45.11 trillion. Net profit, including non-controlling interests, dropped 24.2 percent to KRW 1.93 trillion.
Global wholesale volume declined 11.3 percent to 920,710 vehicles. Hyundai said fewer working days and strike-related production constraints weighed on output, while domestic sales fell 27.2 percent to 131,468 units and sales outside Korea declined 8 percent to 789,242 units.
Hybrids support operating profit
Operating profit rose 5.5 percent to KRW 2.68 trillion, lifting the operating margin to 5.9 percent. Hybrid electric vehicles accounted for 18.2 percent of global sales, and hybrid volume increased 3.8 percent year on year to 167,414 units.
Electrified vehicles represented 26.7 percent of global sales. Total electrified vehicle sales nevertheless fell 2.7 percent to 245,540 units, while battery-electric vehicle sales declined 9.2 percent to 69,117 units.
Guidance reset raises focus
Hyundai lowered its 2026 wholesale sales target to 4 million vehicles from 4.16 million. The consolidated operating margin target was reduced to 5.5 to 6.5 percent from 6.3 to 7.3 percent, while the revenue growth target remained at 1 to 2 percent.
The company also reduced its automotive investment plan to KRW 16 trillion from KRW 17.8 trillion. Hyundai maintained its quarterly dividend at KRW 2,500 per common share, according to the release.
