- The awards highlight customer acquisition, digital engagement and broader banking services.
- Branch expansion and financing products support the bank's retail and business strategy.
I&M Bank, the principal banking subsidiary of I&M Holdings, has received recognition in Kenya for its retail and small-business operations. The Asian Banker reported on October 27, 2026, that I&M Bank was named Best Retail Bank in Kenya and Best SME Bank in Kenya at The Asian Banker Africa Awards 2026.
Recognition follows customer expansion
The awards were linked to the bank's expansion across retail and SME banking, including customer acquisition, digital engagement and a wider range of financial services. The Asian Banker said I&M Bank served approximately 600,000 retail customers in 2025 and added more than 170,000 customers during that year.
Digital onboarding was an important part of that expansion. The source reported that 69% of new-to-bank retail customers were enrolled through electronic know-your-customer processes. Digital channels accounted for 30% of retail sales, while the bank's retail digital activity reached 99.8%.
SME platform broadens banking reach
I&M Bank also received the SME award after serving 76,994 small and medium-sized enterprise customers in 2025. More than 41,000 SME customers were added during the year, and digital activity in the segment reached 99.6%, according to The Asian Banker.
The bank has combined digital services with physical distribution. It opened ten additional branches and expanded products such as short-term digital lending, buy now, pay later services, workplace banking, salary advances and asset financing.
For investors following I&M Holdings stock, the award recognition provides an operating signal rather than a valuation measure. Customer growth and digital usage can support revenue expansion, but the report does not by itself establish a change in earnings, credit quality or the share price.
