IOCL stock reports revenue growth as Q1 loss deepens
Published on 09/29/2026 at 18:58 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSIOCL stock is being weighed against a sharp earnings reversal: Indian Oil Corporation Limited reported Q1 FY27 revenue of INR 266,407.28 crore, up 38.51 percent year over year, but posted a net loss of INR 1,141.09 crore. IT Boltwise reported the figures on September 29, 2026.
Revenue growth meets a loss
The comparison with Q1 FY26 is stark. Indian Oil had reported a net profit of INR 6,808.12 crore in the year-earlier quarter, so the latest result represents a swing of INR 7,949.21 crore from profit to loss, even as revenue expanded.
The operating picture explains why sales growth alone offers limited comfort for refiners. Product prices, crude procurement costs, energy expenses and the marketing mix determine whether higher turnover reaches the bottom line.
Pipeline adds a second earnings lever
Indian Oil received approval on September 21, 2026, for the Kochi-Kanyakumari-Thoothukudi gas pipeline. The project carries an investment of INR 2,448.70 crore and is designed to cover 424.65 kilometers with capacity of 6.84 MMSCMD, according to IT Boltwise.
That infrastructure project offers a counterweight to the margin pressure in refining and fuel marketing. Its contribution will depend on commissioning and utilization, while the Q1 loss shows that the near-term earnings base remains exposed to operating conditions.
Analyst target moves lower
Prabhudas Lilladher retained an Accumulate rating but reduced its target from INR 163.00 to INR 145.00 in a report dated May 20, 2026, according to DSIJ. The report identified fuel under-recoveries, West Asia volatility and planned refinery shutdowns as key risks.
The lower target is consistent with a more cautious earnings framework. PL Research cut its FY27E EBITDA estimate by 30.40 percent and its FY27E EPS estimate by 45.90 percent, while raising its FY28E EBITDA and EPS estimates by 2.90 percent and 9.40 percent, respectively.
Stock stays near yearly low
Indian Oil was last at INR 131.33 on the NSE on September 29, 2026 at 3:15 p.m. IST. Its 52-week range was INR 130.22 to INR 188.96, placing the stock INR 1.11 above its yearly low and 30.50 percent below its yearly high. Market capitalization stood at INR 1.9 trillion on September 29, 2026.
