JGC Holdings is set to resume its role with Fluor on the second phase of LNG Canada's liquefied natural gas export facility after the project consortium approved the expansion on September 29, 2026. Engineering News-Record reported the development on October 2.

The Fluor-JGC engineering, procurement and construction joint venture will deliver two additional LNG processing trains, an LNG storage tank, a condensate tank, a loading berth and expanded utility and process systems. The work is at the Kitimat site in British Columbia, where the first phase was also delivered by the joint venture.

Large project, long execution horizon

Engineering News-Record reported that Fluor and JGC will split the disclosed 15 billion US dollar EPC contract evenly. LNG Canada expects the completed facility to reach total production capacity of 28 million tonnes per year in the early 2030s. The article also noted that the partners had received a limited notice to proceed in June after completing front-end design and engineering analysis.

The project is strategically relevant to JGC because it extends the company's LNG engineering and construction workload in North America. The contract's execution will nevertheless depend on construction progress, commissioning and the ability to manage work around the operating first-phase facility.
