The company was delisted in 2024 after its acquisition by Japan Investment Corporation, making the reported sale process more relevant than a daily exchange quote.
Takeover value tops JPY 1.0 trillion
Bloomberg reported that Mitsubishi Chemical Group and Mitsui Chemicals remained the final candidates under consideration by JIC, with each weighing a price above JPY 1.0 trillion. The report said JIC would assess the proposed prices and conditions before selecting a buyer, while the parties had not publicly confirmed a final transaction.
The reported valuation places JSR's semiconductor materials business at the center of a broader industry consolidation. Its strategic appeal lies in photoresists and other materials used in advanced chip manufacturing, rather than in a currently traded share price.
Profit recovery strengthens the case
JSR's latest reported first-half FY25 figures show revenue of JPY 211.3 billion, up 11 percent from the prior year, according to Quartr on September 9, 2026. Core operating profit reached JPY 26.0 billion, reversing a JPY 4.4 billion loss in the comparable period.
Net profit was JPY 3.9 billion, compared with a JPY 58.0 billion loss a year earlier. Quartr also reported that the first-half result represented 85 percent of the full-year core operating profit target of more than JPY 30.0 billion, giving potential buyers a stronger earnings base to assess.
New EUV facility adds capacity
JSR's South Korean subsidiary completed a plant in Cheongju on September 30, 2026, to produce metal oxide resist for extreme ultraviolet lithography, as Daum reported. The facility is described as JSR's first dedicated EUV metal oxide resist production base and follows the company's 2021 acquisition of Inpria.
JSR remains a private market story
Toyo Keizai reported on September 7, 2026, that JSR's fiscal year ended March 2026 produced revenue of JPY 440.7 billion and operating profit of JPY 40.5 billion, compared with an operating loss of JPY 204.4 billion in the prior year. The figures explain why takeover discussions have become a central market reference for the former 4185 listing.
