KOGAS stock weighs LNG Canada funding against stronger earnings
Published on 10/07/2026 at 01:55 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSKOGAS stock was last at KRW 35,950 on the KOSPI on October 6, 2026, down KRW 50, or 0.14 percent, from the previous session. The immediate company story is LNG Canada Phase 2 funding, while stronger first-half earnings provide a counterweight.
LNG Canada funding advances
According to DigitalToday, KOGAS decided on September 29, 2026, to lend KRW 707.2 billion to wholly owned KOGAS Canada Energy. The loan carries a 4.60 percent interest rate, starts on October 1, 2026, and runs through December 31, 2032.
The financing supports LNG Canada Phase 2 after the project partners approved the final investment decision. KOGAS holds a 5 percent stake and expects an additional annual LNG allocation of 700,000 metric tons from the expansion, which would raise its exposure to both future supply and construction funding.
Profit growth meets balance-sheet pressure
Quartr reported that first-half 2026 operating profit rose 28.0 percent year over year to KRW 1,585.3 billion. Revenue declined 5.2 percent to KRW 193,102 billion, while net income increased 96.1 percent to KRW 887.1 billion.
That mix matters for investors: earnings improved faster than sales because lower LNG import prices and stronger overseas subsidiary results supported profitability. At the same time, the new loan adds a capital commitment to a company whose LNG expansion strategy already depends on large infrastructure investments.
Targets sit above the share price
The consensus published by Investing.com is Buy from 11 analysts, with an average 12-month target of KRW 45,182, a high of KRW 59,000 and a low of KRW 26,000. The average target is 25.7 percent above the October 6 price of KRW 35,950.
That valuation gap is wider than the latest daily move, but the target range also shows a broad debate about leverage, receivables and the capital intensity of overseas LNG projects. The next scheduled earnings report is November 17, 2026, according to Investing.com.
