Mobile World Investment stock enters the fourth quarter after record earnings and a stronger-than-planned nine-month performance. Retail expansion remains central.

Record profit strengthens retail outlook

  • Mobile World Investment exceeded its full-year profit target after nine months of 2026.
  • Electronics and grocery retail remained the main growth engines, while the year-end shopping season becomes the next catalyst.
  • Higher interest rates and softer household demand in 2027 remain key risks for Vietnam's retail sector.

Mobile World Investment reported record third-quarter earnings and exceeded its full-year profit target after nine months of 2026. Upside, carrying a CafeF report dated October 28, said net revenue reached more than VND 52.6 trillion in the third quarter, up 32% year over year. After-tax profit exceeded VND 3.5 trillion, nearly twice the year-earlier level and a quarterly record.

Profit target already surpassed

For the first nine months, revenue rose 30% to VND 147.827 trillion and after-tax profit climbed 93% to VND 9.634 trillion. That result exceeded the company's full-year profit target of VND 9.2 trillion by 5%, while revenue reached 80% of the annual plan of VND 185 trillion.

The operating mix remained supportive. The Dien May Xanh electronics and appliance business generated nearly VND 99.2 trillion in nine-month revenue, up 29%, with same-store sales growth of 30%. Bách Hóa Xanh revenue increased nearly 34% to VND 45.9 trillion, while An Khang pharmacy revenue rose 22%.

Year-end demand in focus

Management expects full-year revenue growth of 30%, supported by new Apple products and the year-end shopping season. The near-term setup is also reflected in The Investor, which linked the sector's momentum to product cycles, technology upgrades and a shift toward modern distribution.

The same report highlighted a more difficult longer-term backdrop. Rising borrowing costs and weaker household demand could weigh on consumption in 2027, although larger retailers may continue to gain share as tax and product-traceability rules reshape informal distribution.

Business model and competition

Mobile World Investment is based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and operates retail businesses across Vietnam and Indonesia. Its portfolio includes electronics and home appliances through Dien May Xanh, consumer goods through Bách Hóa Xanh, pharmacies through An Khang and other retail formats. It competes with FPT Retail in phones and pharmacies, Masan Group's WinCommerce in grocery retail and Digiworld in technology distribution. MWG's broader store network and multi-format structure distinguish it from more specialized rivals.
