- Nippon Steel Trading plans to acquire CLN Slovakia through its Austrian subsidiary.
- The transaction is intended to strengthen steel processing and distribution for European industrial customers.
Nippon Steel Trading has agreed to acquire all shares of CLN Slovakia through its subsidiary Nippon Steel Trading Austria GmbH, according to the company's official release published on October 30, 2026. The transaction brings a steel service center in Košice, Slovakia, into the group's European expansion plan.
Acquisition adds processing capacity
CLN Slovakia has operated since 2007 and specializes in slitting and leveling steel for the automotive industry. The service center has 69 employees and annual processing capacity of about 220,000 metric tons, according to EUROMETAL.
Nippon Steel Trading said the acquisition will strengthen steel distribution and processing in Europe. It expects the expanded platform to support customers in automotive, construction, industrial machinery, home appliances and solar energy.
European supply chains are the focus
The company said local processing and delivery capabilities are becoming more important as manufacturing expands in Central and Eastern Europe. The transaction is designed to add value-added services and deepen supply-chain ties around Nippon Steel Slovakia's Košice operations.
Trading and processing platform
Nippon Steel Trading is a Japan-based specialty trading company with activities spanning steel, industrial supply and infrastructure, foodstuffs and textiles. The CLN Slovakia transaction highlights its position as a distribution and processing specialist within the Nippon Steel Group's European network, with a focus on localized services rather than primary steel production.
