Nordstrom plans Rack store as Nordstrom stock leaves public markets
Published on 10/01/2026 at 14:15 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSNordstrom plans a new Nordstrom Rack location in Cypress, Texas, for fall 2027, while Nordstrom stock now belongs to a privately held company. The Nordstrom Press Room listed the Cypress announcement on September 1, 2026, giving the retailer's store expansion a concrete next step.
Rack expansion targets Cypress
The planned store will open in Dunham Pointe, a retail development at the intersection of Highway 290 and Mason Road. The location will cover 2,322 square meters and is expected to open in fall 2027, according to MarketScreener on September 1, 2026.
Nordstrom said the Rack concept offers discounts of up to 70 percent on fashion, accessories, beauty products, home goods and footwear. The division also supports online order pickup, returns and selected tailoring services, linking the physical expansion to the retailer's omnichannel model.
Private ownership changes the timetable
The ownership structure is the more important stock-market development. In May 2025, the Nordstrom family and El Puerto de Liverpool completed a USD 6.25 billion transaction that left the family with 50.10 percent and Liverpool with 49.90 percent, FamilyBusiness.org reported on September 30, 2026.
That comparison matters because Nordstrom moved from a liquid public-market structure to family-majority ownership. The change gives the owners more control over the pace of store investment, technology spending and customer-service initiatives than a conventional public company timetable would provide.
FamilyBusiness.org also cited fiscal 2025 revenue of USD 15.9 billion and stronger operating profit. The figure is historical rather than a current quarterly result, but it provides a baseline for judging whether the private turnaround is translating investment into operating progress.
Texas footprint adds operating scale
The Cypress project would add to a Texas network that includes eight Nordstrom stores and 27 Nordstrom Rack locations. Those operations support more than 3,400 jobs in the state, according to MarketScreener on September 1, 2026.
For the former public-market security, the key investor question is therefore operational rather than daily price discovery: whether Rack openings, store services and digital fulfillment can support the USD 15.9 billion revenue base cited for fiscal 2025.
Nordstrom stock is privately held
Nordstrom stock does not represent a currently traded public equity after the May 2025 transaction. The company remains a department-store retailer under family-majority ownership, with the Cypress opening scheduled for fall 2027.
