SEB S.A. (ISIN FR0000121709) faces a sharply lower 2026 free-cash-flow forecast after S&P Global Ratings affirmed its A-2 short-term rating on October 16, 2026. The agency expects free operating cash flow after leases of EUR 50 million-60 million in fiscal year 2026, compared with its previous forecast of EUR 300 million-400 million.
Cash flow forecast drops sharply
The rating action puts SEB's restructuring program at the center of the investment case. S&P Global Ratings said first-half 2026 adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization fell to EUR 112 million from EUR 228 million a year earlier, with EUR 180 million of restructuring costs tied mainly to the Rebound Plan.
The operating picture is mixed rather than uniformly weak. First-half 2026 organic sales grew 1.70 percent on a like-for-like basis, while reported sales declined 0.10 percent because of currency effects. The consumer segment, which represented 87.00 percent of sales, grew 2.30 percent like for like, while the professional segment, representing 13.00 percent, declined 2.80 percent.
What does the cash flow cut mean?
S&P Global Ratings now forecasts adjusted debt leverage of 4.30 times in fiscal year 2026, compared with 3.00 times in its earlier base case. The agency expects the adjusted EBITDA margin to fall to 8.20 percent-8.70 percent in 2026 from 10.00 percent in 2025.
SEB's response is a cost program targeting EUR 40 million-60 million of savings in 2026 and at least EUR 200 million of recurring annual savings from the end of 2027. Implementation costs are expected at EUR 200 million-250 million, making execution and cash conversion the key operating tests.
Two dates shape the next step
Groupe SEB has scheduled the release of nine-month 2026 sales and financial data for October 22, 2026. The company also lists its fiscal year 2026 sales and results release for February 24, 2027.
