SD Guthrie has entered a strategic joint venture with Bumi Assets and YTL Power International to develop about 1,623 acres of freehold land in Bukit Kerayong, Selangor. The Star reported the deal on Friday, October 30.

The project will be carried out through Bukit Kerayong Industrial Developments. SD Guthrie Land Ventures, a wholly owned subsidiary, will hold 30%, while Bumi Assets and YTL Power will each hold 35%.

Land monetization adds industrial angle

As part of the transaction, SD Guthrie will sell the land to the joint venture for approximately RM933.57 million. The planned development is intended to combine light-to-medium industrial uses with commercial components and supporting infrastructure.

The location offers access to the West Coast Expressway and North Klang Valley Expressway and is close to Port Klang's Northport and Westports, according to the company statement cited by The Star. That positioning gives the project a logistics-oriented rationale, although its investment contribution will depend on development timing, proceeds recognition and execution.

For investors, the transaction broadens the group's exposure beyond plantation operations. The retained stake leaves SD Guthrie involved in the site's future development while the land sale provides a route to monetize part of its strategic land bank.

Company profile and competitive position

SD Guthrie is a Malaysian palm oil group with more than 200 plantation estates and operations or presence in about 90 countries, according to its investor relations profile. Its core business is supported by plantation assets and palm oil activities, while projects such as Bukit Kerayong add an industrial development component. The company identifies Carey Island in Malaysia as a sustainable palm oil hub.
