Shinhan Financial Group stock falls 3.45 percent in Korea

Profit growth remains visible

The Q2 result gives the stock a measurable earnings counterweight after the September 23 price move. Return on equity improved to 12.4 percent, while return on tangible common equity reached 13.9 percent, each higher than a year earlier, the Globe and Mail reported.

Operating profit before expenses increased 8.8 percent from Q1 2026. The group also reported a 22.0 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in noninterest income, with securities custody fees up 29.5 percent and wealth management sales fees up 60.8 percent, according to the same September 2026 earnings coverage.

Fee income changes the mix

The composition of earnings matters because Shinhan is not relying only on net interest income. Investment banking fees rebounded 151.3 percent from Q1 2026, while Shinhan Bank earnings rose 12.5 percent and Shinhan Card earnings increased 19.5 percent quarter on quarter, according to the Globe and Mail report.

That improvement was partly offset by a 28.9 percent quarter-on-quarter drop at Shinhan Capital as valuation gains recorded in Q1 normalized. The contrast between a 22.0 percent rise in noninterest income and the 28.9 percent decline at one subsidiary makes earnings mix a central checkpoint for the next report.
