- Underlying nine-month profit rose after excluding acquisition-related bargain purchase gains from the prior year.
- Operating revenue and operating profit reached record or sharply higher levels as corporate lending and cost efficiency supported earnings.
- The quarterly dividend continues Woori Financial's focus on shareholder returns while management targets further improvement in return on equity.
Woori Financial Group reported a second consecutive quarterly profit above KRW 1 trillion on October 23, 2026, reinforcing the earnings recovery at South Korea's bank holding company. The Korea Herald said third-quarter net profit reached KRW 1.05 trillion, up 4.4 percent from the previous quarter but down 15.7 percent from the unusually strong year-earlier quarter.
Underlying income improves
For the first nine months, net profit totaled KRW 2.66 trillion, a year-on-year decline of 4.9 percent. The comparison was affected by bargain purchase gains tied to insurance acquisitions in 2025; excluding those gains, profit rose 18.7 percent.
Cumulative operating revenue increased 6.2 percent to KRW 8.68 trillion, while operating profit climbed 19.5 percent to KRW 3.54 trillion. Corporate lending supported interest income, although noninterest income declined as securities-related gains weakened. Woori Bank, the group's flagship subsidiary, generated record quarterly net profit of KRW 1.03 trillion.
Dividend keeps shareholder focus
Return on equity for common shareholders improved to 9.9 percent for the nine-month period from 9 percent in the first half. The board approved a third-quarter dividend of KRW 220 per share, 10 percent above the prior-year payout, extending the group's shareholder-return policy.
For investors, the results present a mixed comparison: reported profit remains below the prior year's level because of the acquisition-related base effect, while underlying earnings, operating profit and capital efficiency have strengthened. The next relevant milestones are the group's dividend timetable and its ability to sustain quarterly profitability above the KRW 1 trillion threshold.
