Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation's LNG dual-fuel container vessel YM Wayfinder called at Vietnam's Tan Cang-Cai Mep International Terminal on October 27, according to Sagar Sandesh. The vessel operates on the EC2 service of the Premier Alliance, linking Vietnam and North America through ports in Asia, Mexico, the United States and Canada.

Fleet renewal targets major routes

YM Wayfinder measures nearly 365 metres and can carry about 15,500 TEUs. Its dual-fuel propulsion system runs on liquefied natural gas or low-sulphur fuel oil, while onboard monitoring and energy-saving systems are intended to improve operating efficiency and reduce emissions.

The vessel is one of five LNG dual-fuel ships Yang Ming began receiving in 2026. The carrier has also ordered seven additional container ships with capacity of about 16,000 TEUs each for delivery in 2028 and 2029. The newbuilds are designed with provisions for future ammonia operation, adding a longer-term decarbonisation option to the fleet plan.

Competition remains regional and global

Yang Ming is a Taiwan-based container shipping company serving international liner routes and logistics customers. Its fleet includes conventional and lower-emission vessels, with the current investment focused on trans-Pacific and other major trade lanes. The company competes with Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine and Wan Hai Lines, while larger global carriers such as Maersk operate across the same international container market; Yang Ming remains a specialised regional carrier within that broader field.

Yang Ming company facts

  • Company: Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation
  • Event date: October 27, 2026
  • Vessel: YM Wayfinder
  • Capacity: Approximately 15,500 TEUs

For container-shipping investors, the deployment highlights how fleet renewal can combine route capacity with lower-emission propulsion. Freight rates, cargo volumes, delivery timing and the cost of LNG-capable ships remain important factors for future earnings.
