Ballard Power shareholders have delivered a near-total vote of confidence in the company’s leadership, even as the boardroom contracts through a series of high-profile departures. At the 2026 annual general meeting on June 3, each of the directors standing for election received approval ratings north of 90%, with Marty Neese walking away with a staggering 99.16% of votes cast. Kathy Bayless followed at 98.21%, Jacqueline Dedo at 98.78%, and “Say-on-Pay” on executive remuneration sailed through with 90.75% backing. KPMG LLP was reappointed as independent auditor for fiscal 2026 with 87.02% support.

Yet the overwhelming endorsement masks a period of considerable board turnover. Janet Woodruff resigned as director with effect from June 2, the day before the AGM. That departure came on the heels of the mid-May exits of Michael Chen and Huajie Wang, both of whom had been nominated by major shareholder Weichai. With three seats now vacant, the board will operate in a leaner configuration going forward — a shift that appears to have been accepted calmly by the shareholder base, given the lopsided vote tallies.

The market response has been more measured. Ballard Power shares edged down to around €5.14 in Friday morning trading, a 2.56% slip as the stock retreats from its 52-week high of €5.62, set just two days before the AGM. Over the past 12 months, the equity has surged an eye-popping 321%, fuelled by optimism around hydrogen infrastructure and the commercial rollout of PEM fuel-cell technology. But the technical picture is growing stretched: the 14-day relative strength index stands at 71.7, nudging into overbought territory, while the stock sits only 6.85% below its recent peak.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Ballard Power?

Analysts remain cautious. TipRanks rates the shares a “Hold” with a price target of roughly €2.80, implying considerable downside from current levels. Even so, the stock has climbed more than 50% above its 50-day moving average of €3.41, and annualized volatility remains elevated at 123%. For the rally to sustain, investors will want to see operational milestones — notably the delivery of next-generation hydrogen buses to Solaris Bus & Coach and a continued ramp-up in cost controls and margin improvement. With the board firmly re-empowered, the focus now shifts from governance to execution.
