Ballard Power Systems turned in a first-quarter performance that gave shareholders little reason to rock the boat. Revenue climbed 26% year-over-year to $19.4 million, while the gross margin swung from negative to a positive 14%. The Canadian fuel-cell specialist also slashed operating expenses by roughly a third, pulling the cash burn from $24.4 million down to just $7.8 million. Those numbers set a constructive backdrop for the annual meeting held on June 3.

The meeting delivered a near-clean sweep of board approvals, even as three directors departed. Representatives of major Chinese shareholder Weichai, Michael Chen and Huajie Wang, had resigned from the board on May 13. Janet Woodruff followed suit on June 2, a day before the gathering. The remaining six directors, however, were re?elected with approval rates above 90%. Chief executive Marty Neese drew the strongest endorsement, securing 99.16% of votes cast. Shareholders also ratified the pay structure for management and reappointed KPMG as auditor.

The balance sheet offers plenty of cushion for the next phase of growth. Ballard ended the quarter with nearly $517 million in cash. New orders for its FCmove?SC fuel-cell engine from bus operators in Europe and Britain have added visibility, particularly for the second half of the year, which management expects to deliver the bulk of 2025 revenue.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Ballard Power?

The market has taken notice of both the operational progress and the governance reset. Ballard’s stock touched a fresh 52?week high of €5.62 on Tuesday before retreating to close at €5.28 on Thursday. Over the past twelve months the shares have surged roughly 324%. Technical indicators show a strongly overbought condition: the relative strength index sits at 73, and the price trades more than 100% above its 200?day moving average. While the long?term trend remains firmly bullish, the rapid ascent leaves the stock vulnerable to a near?term consolidation as investors weigh whether the operational turnaround can sustain the rally.
