Barrick Gold Corporation has announced a significant realignment of its senior leadership team, focusing on the critical intersection of legal, regulatory, and governmental affairs. The strategic appointments come on the heels of a powerful fourth-quarter financial report, signaling a consolidation of expertise directly under Chief Executive Officer Mark Hill.
Strong Financial Results Set the Stage
The leadership changes follow an exceptionally strong finish to the year. For the fourth quarter, Barrick reported revenue of $6.00 billion, representing a substantial 45% increase over the third quarter. Production volumes also saw healthy gains, with the company reporting 871,000 ounces of gold (a 5% quarter-over-quarter rise) and 62,000 tonnes of copper (up 13%).
On an annual basis for 2025, sales were approximately 3.3 million ounces of gold and 220,000 tonnes of copper. Operational cash flow for Q4 reached $2.73 billion, while free cash flow was $1.62 billion. Perhaps most notably, earnings per share surged 88% from the prior quarter to $1.43.
New Appointments to Key Roles
The mining giant has created two new senior positions reporting directly to the CEO. James J. McGuire joins as Chief Legal and Policy Officer, bringing more than 30 years of legal experience, most recently from Greenspoon Marder LLP. Woo Lee has been promoted to Chief Global Affairs Officer. An internal veteran with over 11 years at Barrick, Lee was previously Senior Vice President Government and Corporate Affairs for Asia-Pacific. His background includes more than 30 years as a U.S. diplomat in the APAC region and in government affairs. Both executives will join the company’s Executive Committee.
In a related move, Poupak Bahamin will assume the roles of General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.
Capital Allocation and Forward Guidance
Alongside its operational performance, Barrick is returning significant capital to shareholders. The board approved an increase in the quarterly dividend to $0.42 per share, with the ex-dividend date set for this Friday. Furthermore, during 2025, the company repurchased $1.5 billion worth of its own shares.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Barrick Mining?
Looking ahead to 2026, management has provided production guidance ranging from 2.90 to 3.25 million ounces of gold and 190,000 to 220,000 tonnes of copper. Concurrently, the board is advancing plans for an initial public offering of its North American gold assets.
Market Reaction and Analyst Sentiment
Barrick's shares closed Tuesday's session at $49.71. Trading volume of 9.2 million shares was below the 20-day average of 19 million. The company's market capitalization stands at $85.85 billion.
The strategic moves and solid fundamentals have garnered positive attention from analysts. At the start of the week, J.P. Morgan analyst Bennett Moore reaffirmed his "Buy" rating on the stock and raised his price target to $65.
