Bayer’s Clean-Slate Strategy: How a Landmark Court Victory and a New US Subsidiary Powered a 104% Rally

For years, Bayer’s stock was weighed down by a single, stubborn legal liability. That burden lifted decisively on June 25, 2026, when the US Supreme Court ruled 7–2 that federal pre-emption shields the company from state-level lawsuits over glyphosate labelling. The decision immediately extinguished the legal basis for thousands of pending claims and sent the shares into overdrive. By Friday, the equity had surged 54% in a month and almost 40% since January, clocking a 12-month gain of 104.49%.
The ruling alone would have been a powerful catalyst. But Bayer had already prepared a structural follow-through. On July 1, 2026, just days after the Court’s decision, the group launched a standalone US subsidiary called Ruveon LLC, based in St. Louis. Ruveon takes full control of pricing, production and sales for the American glyphosate market, effectively isolating the most politically sensitive part of the business. The move is part of a five-year revamp of the Crop Science division and is designed to make the unit nimbler against generic competitors. At the same time, Bayer has petitioned US authorities for anti-dumping duties on Chinese glyphosate imports, signalling an aggressive posture to protect its newly streamlined operation.
The market wasted no time rewarding this double act. The stock closed Thursday at €53.08, then pushed further to touch a fresh 52-week high of €53.86 on Friday. Current trading around €53.32 places the equity just a whisker below that peak and roughly 38% above its 50-day moving average – a technical configuration that historically signals strong momentum. Deutsche Bank Research responded by upgrading the shares to “Buy” and setting a price target of €60, arguing that the strategic reset has materially reduced the risk profile.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?
Yet the speed of the rally has pushed the relative strength index to 85.3, deep into overbought territory. While the fundamental case has clearly improved, the chart warns that a short-term pullback is possible before the next leg higher. Investors will need to weigh the fresh legal clarity against the stretched valuation implied by that RSI reading.
Away from the courtroom and the corporate restructuring, Bayer’s operational pipeline is also gathering pace. The pharmaceuticals unit expects key approvals next year for the cancer drug Nubeqa and the chronic kidney disease treatment Kerendia. In agriculture, the group is counting on the NewGold seed brand and the Plenexos insecticide to drive growth. With the US legal overhang receding and the Ruveon structure simplifying day-to-day management, chief executive Bill Anderson can now direct his full attention to these core businesses.
The €60 target from Deutsche Bank is no longer a distant ambition. If the positive momentum holds – and if the overbought technicals cool without a sharp reversal – Bayer’s stock could soon test that level. For now, the combination of judicial relief and operational focus has given the DAX-listed company a narrative that feels genuinely new, not just a temporary relief rally.
