BioNTech’s oncology pipeline took center stage at the ESMO gynaecological cancers congress in Copenhagen, where the company unveiled updated survival figures for its antibody-drug conjugate Trastuzumab pamirtecan. The data are striking—especially for a stock that has shed roughly a quarter of its value from its January high.

The Phase?2 trial enrolled 145 patients with advanced endometrial cancer, and the median overall survival clocked in at 15 months. The median progression?free survival hit 8.1 months, while the objective response rate reached 44.1%. Those top?line numbers are strong, but the subgroup analyses are what caught oncologists’ attention: among patients with the highest HER2 expression (IHC 3+), the response rate climbed above 70%. Even in patients with low HER2 levels, nearly 34% responded. For context, the standard chemotherapy regimen in this indication delivers a response rate of only around 15%.

The presentation in Denmark expanded on earlier data released in April by adding overall survival figures and detailed subgroup breakdowns. BioNTech developed the drug in partnership with DualityBio, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has already granted it Breakthrough Therapy and Fast?Track designations. The company now plans to submit a formal Biologics License Application to the FDA later this year, pending regulatory feedback. In China, the review process is already underway.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BioNTech?

Trastuzumab pamirtecan is just one piece of a broader oncology push. BioNTech intends to launch six additional Phase?3 studies this year, bringing its total number of late?stage clinical programmes to 15. Seven major data readouts are expected in 2026 alone, including results for the antibody gotistobart in lung cancer and for the mRNA?based cancer vaccine BNT113 in head?and?neck tumours. Observers are particularly keen on BNT113 data in the fourth quarter.

Yet the market has remained unimpressed. The stock trades at around €79, about 25% below its January peak of €105.80 and roughly 4% lower year?to?date. The reason for the disconnect is the financial picture: BioNTech’s first?quarter 2026 revenue collapsed to €118.1 million from €182.8 million a year earlier, and the net loss widened to €531.9 million. The company still maintains its full?year revenue guidance of €2.0–€2.3 billion, but the fading Covid?vaccine windfall is squeezing the core business.

Analyst sentiment remains cautiously optimistic. HC Wainwright rates the shares a Buy with a $145 price target, and the consensus on Wall Street is a “Moderate Buy.” But the stock’s trajectory hinges on a near?term catalyst: the FDA filing for Trastuzumab pamirtecan, which, if accepted and eventually approved, would become BioNTech’s first commercial oncology product. The global Phase?3 study Fern?EC?01, which directly compares the drug with standard chemotherapy, will be critical in determining whether the Phase?2 promise holds up.

For a company that has been betting billions of euros on its post?pandemic future, the Copenhagen data represent one of the most concrete signs of progress yet. The next milestone—the FDA submission itself—will test whether the clinical story can finally translate into a market story.
