BMW’s second-quarter delivery figures paint a picture of two diverging worlds. In China, sales tumbled 30.2 percent to 117,815 units, while the United States posted a 13 percent advance to 102,713 vehicles and Europe recorded a 5.4 percent increase in the first half. The mismatch has pushed the stock to within 2.14 percent of its 52-week low of €57.06, closing Friday at €58.28.

Globally, the automaker delivered 590,962 vehicles in the three months through June, down 4.9 percent year on year. That brought first-half deliveries to roughly 1.15 million units, a 4.2 percent decline. The China drag was the primary culprit: over the first six months, BMW and Mini sold just 261,773 vehicles there, a 20.4 percent drop that accelerated sharply in the second quarter.

Investors have taken note. The stock has shed almost 40 percent since the start of 2026, and on a monthly basis it has fallen 13.84 percent. At Friday’s close, the shares sat 29 percent below their 200-day moving average of €82.03, underscoring the persistence of the downtrend. The relative strength index of 31.1 signals a near-oversold condition, reflecting the intensity of the selling pressure.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BMW?

Not every pocket of the business is struggling. BMW’s battery-electric vehicle sales jumped 5.2 percent in the second quarter to 116,807 units globally. Europe was the main engine: BEV deliveries there surged 38 percent to 81,445 cars, helped by the early rollout of the new iX3. The SUV model is the first to ride the company’s Neue Klasse platform, and management reports that pre-orders are approaching the 100,000 mark. A long-wheelbase version of the iX3 will enter presale at the Chengdu Auto Show in August, and the car has reportedly achieved a real-world range of more than 800 kilometers.

BMW is not alone in its Chinese travails. Mercedes-Benz saw a 30 percent drop in second-quarter sales there, and Volkswagen suffered an even sharper fall of 36.6 percent. Industry observers now speak of a “China shock 2.0,” as local competitors ramp up aggressive pricing and new models while consumer behavior shifts. For BMW, the iX3 and the rest of the Neue Klasse family are central to a recovery bid in the world’s largest auto market.

The next major catalyst is the half-year earnings report due July 30, which will reveal how deeply the pricing pressure in China has cut into margins. Until then, chart watchers see the €57 mark as a key support level. Should the stock breach that floor, the next stop could be new lows. On the upside, any positive order figures from China for the Neue Klasse in August could provide a much-needed lift.

At a market capitalization of €35.38 billion, BMW remains one of Europe’s largest automakers. But bridging the gap between its strong performance in the West and its deepening crisis in the East will require more than just a promising EV platform — it will demand a sustained reversal in Chinese consumer sentiment.
