Cloud-Based Hazardous Substance Manager GeSi4 Debuts as German Firms Seek Off-Site Safety Compliance

German companies grappling with the logistics of hazard documentation can now turn to a fully browser-based solution. GeSi-Software GmbH will launch GeSi4 GefStoff-Profi in mid-June, offering the system both as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) subscription and an on-premise installation. The move responds to rising demand for location-independent workplace safety tools.
At the core of the new platform sits SDBcheck technology, which processes safety data sheets automatically. The system creates a closed workflow from data import and maintenance of the hazardous substances register all the way through to generating legally compliant risk assessments. It supports established frameworks such as the Simple Measures Concept for Hazardous Substances (EMKG) and the STOP principle — substitution, technical, organisational and personal protective measures. Companies can produce legally sound instructions directly from the software.
Two generations of the product now coexist. The older GeSi³ GefStoff-Profi has been on the market for over a decade and remains available as a pure on-premise system aimed at existing customers and users with complex functional requirements. GeSi4, by contrast, prioritises browser-based work and modern IT infrastructures. Both editions comply with the REACH regulation and draw on the same data basis for safety data sheet imports. Industry experts note that the choice depends on a firm’s IT strategy and desired level of mobility. An early-access phase for the fourth-generation version started in mid-June.
Beyond software, hardware developments are addressing chemical spills. In June, Graz University of Technology presented a four-legged robot designed for chemical accidents: it measures pollutant concentrations in real time and streams live images from danger zones before emergency personnel need to enter. Field tests have confirmed its practical suitability.
