Three people have been detained after a fatal crane collapse at a construction site in Prishtina, Kosovo, in an incident that has reignited concerns over workplace safety standards in the region's building sector. Three Detained as Investigation Widens
The Basic Prosecution in Prishtina said three individuals are being held in connection with the incident. A person identified by the initials A.Sh. is suspected of causing general danger, while construction supervisor B.S. and investment company representative E.E. face investigation for failing to ensure workplace safety.
Legal proceedings are focusing on charges related to causing general danger and the destruction, damage, or removal of protective equipment. The State Prosecutor has authorised an ongoing investigation into the precise circumstances of the collapse.
Site Had Not Been Inspected
The Central Labor Inspectorate conducted an initial review of the site following the tragedy. Officials found that the construction project was in its foundation and excavation phase when the crane fell. The equipment was in the process of being mounted and had not yet been inspected by safety authorities.
The site had reportedly received no prior inspections before the July 28 incident. The Labor Inspectorate is now coordinating with other law enforcement bodies to determine whether technical requirements for the crane installation were met.
