The agreements span the corporate, academic, and defense sectors, highlighting a diverse push toward practical quantum computing implementations.

In a notable move for national security applications, D-Wave has initiated a collaboration with Davidson Technologies and Anduril Industries. The partnership is focused on developing quantum-classical hybrid solutions for intricate planning and simulation tasks within U.S. air and missile defense systems. Early collaborative simulations have reportedly yielded promising initial results, demonstrating potential for faster solutions and enhanced threat response capabilities. This announcement coincided with the company’s “Qubits 2026” conference.

Commercial and Academic Commitments Signal Demand

On the commercial front, the company has secured a substantial two-year enterprise agreement valued at $10 million. The client, an unnamed Fortune 100 corporation, will utilize D-Wave’s Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) platform to develop and test new applications.

Simultaneously, a major academic commitment has emerged. Florida Atlantic University has agreed to purchase an “Advantage2” annealing quantum computer system for $20 million. Installation at the university’s Boca Raton campus is anticipated later this year, where it will serve to advance both research initiatives and educational programs in quantum computing.

This comes alongside data indicating a 314% year-over-year increase in usage for its current “Advantage2” annealing systems, a metric that points to rising demand for solving complex optimization problems.

The sector is widely viewed as approaching a critical transition, shifting focus from theoretical potential to tangible, commercial products. D-Wave, which offers both annealing and gate-model systems, interprets its recent contract wins as clear signals of growing customer adoption of current-generation technology.
