Defiance Silver Corp. has cleared a major regulatory obstacle, paving the way for a significant expansion of its flagship San Acacio silver project. The company announced it has received a key environmental permit from Mexico’s SEMARNAT, which will allow it to access previously unexplored areas within the historic Zacatecas mining district.

This authorization, known as an "Informe Preventivo," is valid for a period of 54 months. It grants the company permission to construct up to 44 new drill pads and 35 access roads. For Defiance Silver, this permit marks a strategic shift from investigating historical mine workings to conducting systematic, large-scale exploration across new ground. Management expects this move to substantially grow the project's existing resource base.

Market Responds to Operational Progress

The operational update was met with a positive reaction from investors. Defiance Silver’s shares advanced approximately 7.25% to trade at 0.15 euros following the news. This gain provides some stabilization for the equity, which had faced considerable pressure over the previous month, declining more than 32%.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Defiance Silver?

Unlocking New Geological Potential

Until now, work at San Acacio has primarily focused on known, historically mined areas. The newly approved infrastructure will enable the exploration team to target zones that extend well beyond the old workings, both laterally and at depth. The objective is to refine the geological model of the Veta Grande system and gather the necessary data for an updated mineral resource estimate.

This expanded permit complements an ongoing 10,000-meter diamond drill program already in progress. As recently as February, the company reported high-grade silver intercepts from several drill holes, which confirmed the continuity of mineralization. Beyond its core silver asset in Zacatecas, Defiance Silver is also advancing its Victoria copper project, for which an expanded drill permit is already in hand.

The company’s focus in the coming months will be on executing the new drill plan across these untested zones. The results from this campaign will be critical in determining the potential of these new areas to contribute to a planned increase in mineral resources.
