DroneShield has signed a $25 million contract with the US Department of Defense’s Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401) for counter-drone systems, locking in at least $10 million of revenue for the current financial year. The deal, which includes $19 million in firm commitments and a five-year option, covers both mobile and stationary solutions — some of which will incorporate third-party hardware alongside DroneShield’s own equipment and software subscriptions. Hardware deliveries are slated for the second half of 2026.

The win is a notable early success for chief executive Angus Bean, who took the helm in April. Market observers view the contract as a stabilising force for the new leadership team. But at the same time, the company has quietly raised its disclosure threshold for new orders from $5 million to $20 million, citing the strong growth that has made smaller deals less material. The current US contract comfortably exceeds the new bar.

None of this has been enough to reverse the stock’s slide. DroneShield shares closed Tuesday at €1.59 but have since fallen another 4% to €1.52, bringing the year-to-date loss to roughly 23%. The relative strength index has sunk to 28.1, deep into oversold territory, and the price now trades more than 22% below the 50-day moving average of €1.97. A sustainable technical buy signal would require a decisive break above that line.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?

What continues to weigh on the stock is the ongoing investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). The regulator is scrutinising market announcements made by DroneShield as well as share sales by executives from November 2025. While the company says it is fully cooperating, the uncertainty has forced investors to apply a governance discount — one that has not been offset by robust operational news.

And the operational news has been robust. The company posted a record quarterly revenue of roughly AUD 74 million in the first quarter of 2026 and disclosed a sales pipeline of approximately AUD 2.2 billion. European manufacturing capacity is now live, with the first locally produced systems rolling off the line in mid-June, reducing supply chain risk and opening the door to faster deliveries in the region. A partnership with tactical-vehicle specialist Defenture, formalised at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris, will integrate DroneShield’s counter-drone systems onto military platforms such as the Mammoth and GRF models.

To bolster its access to defence procurement circles, DroneShield is also adding a heavyweight to its board. Rear Admiral Lee Goddard CSC — a 30-plus-year veteran of defence, national security and government — will join as an independent non-executive director on 1 July 2026. Chairman Hamish McLennan described Goddard as offering an “extraordinary combination of defence, security and board experience”, with the potential to open doors in Australia, the US and allied countries.

For now, however, the governance overhang remains the dominant force. The stock’s dual readings of oversold conditions — the latest RSI at 28.1, down from 31.4 a week earlier — suggest the selling pressure may be nearing exhaustion, but no relief will come until ASIC concludes its investigation. Until then, DroneShield’s operational momentum will exist in parallel with a market that is still pricing in the risk.
