DroneShield’s Institutional Backing Grows, Yet the Share Price Tells a Different Story
Published on 07/22/2026 at 06:33 | Redaktion boerse-global.deThe narrative around DroneShield is becoming increasingly split. On one side, major institutional money is flowing in, with Fidelity’s investment arm, FMR LLC, pushing its stake to just shy of a double-digit holding. On the other, the company’s shares remain mired in a deep slump, trading more than 60% below their peak from last autumn.
FMR LLC disclosed on July 21 that it now controls 9.93% of the voting rights in the Australian counter-drone specialist, inching ever closer to the symbolic 10% threshold. The move is the latest in a series of filings that signal sustained conviction from long-term fund managers, even as the broader market has soured on the stock. No details on the exact volume or timing of the purchases were provided, but the escalation is a clear vote of confidence in DroneShield’s strategic position.
That confidence is rooted in a business that has finally turned a corner operationally. DroneShield posted revenue of roughly A$216.8 million and, according to reports, reached profitability for the first time. The company develops detection and countermeasure systems for drones, along with electronic warfare technology, selling primarily to defense agencies, government bodies, and commercial clients. The combination of top-line growth and bottom-line profitability has reignited the growth debate around the stock.
The broader industry backdrop also lends support. RBC analysts expect Axon, a US security technology giant, to post second-quarter bookings of around US$14.7 billion, up 2.5% from the prior quarter. More striking is the performance of Axon’s counter-drone subsidiary, Dedrone, which reportedly saw first-quarter bookings surge by 500%, fueled by the Safer Skies Act and rising demand from US security agencies. That kind of momentum across the sector is widely seen as a positive read-through for DroneShield, which competes in the same space.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?
Market research underscores the size of the opportunity. According to Coherent Market Insights, the global market for counter-drone systems is expected to expand from roughly US$4 billion this year to around US$20 billion by 2033, representing a compound annual growth rate of about 25%. DroneShield is listed alongside established defense primes like Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, RTX, BAE Systems, Thales, Airbus, Leonardo, Rafael, and Elbit, as well as niche players such as Anduril, Dedrone, and Echodyne. For a relatively small company, being named in that company is a testament to its growing relevance.
Yet the share price has stubbornly refused to reflect any of this optimism. On Tuesday, the stock closed at €1.33, a gain of just 0.83% on the day. That leaves it roughly 63.5% below its 52-week high of €3.65, reached on October 6, 2025. The relative strength index sits at 36.0, indicating weak momentum without yet entering deeply oversold territory.
The technical picture is equally grim from other angles. The stock trades about 19.5% below its 50-day moving average of €1.67, a sign of a sustained medium-term downtrend. On the US over-the-counter market, where DroneShield trades under the ticker DRSHF, a sell signal has been in place since early June. The ADR-listed shares also took a hit on Monday, falling roughly 5.6%. Year-to-date, the stock is down 25.61%.
DroneShield at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The divergence is stark. Fidelity is doubling down, the sector is booming, and the company is finally profitable. But the market is pricing in skepticism, punishing the stock from its euphoric highs of late 2025. For DroneShield, the challenge now is translating industry tailwinds into concrete orders and financial results that can win back a broader investor base. The market capitalization currently stands at roughly €1.21 billion — a far cry from the valuation that accompanied last autumn’s peak.
