The Australian counter-drone specialist is quietly shifting its centre of gravity. DroneShield has released its quarterly platform update for DroneSentry-C2, but the headline technical gains are only half the story. The real prize is a business-model transformation: the company aims to lift recurring software revenue to 30% of total sales by 2030, up from a mere 7% in the first quarter of 2026, when SaaS contributed just 5.1 million Australian dollars.

The update itself delivers concrete improvements that reinforce that subscription pitch. Target-tracking accuracy has jumped 58% quarter-on-quarter, while directional precision improved by 15%. Chief Technology Officer Angus Harris stressed that the enhancements are a direct response to faster, harder-to-detect drone swarms and agile frequency-hopping threats. For frontline operators, the result is greater confidence in identification and engagement.

A key feature targets the most sensitive defence environments. Military and government clients can now install the update on disconnected, air-gapped networks using portable storage media — removing the need for a persistent internet connection. The system also supports offline map uploads, a critical capability for remote or contested theatres. To broaden its international reach, DroneShield has added Dutch, German, Ukrainian, and Japanese language support to the interface.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?

The company is also deepening its role as a systems integrator. The new software improves data fusion with Robin Radar’s IRIS system, integrates searchlights and optical tracking from Evica PinPoint, and adds compatibility with TSG’s command-and-control platform. This interoperability push is designed to make DroneShield’s technology a standard node in larger air-defence networks.

Alongside the software rollout, DroneShield has strengthened its boardroom firepower. Rear Admiral Lee Goddard joined the board on 1 July, bringing three decades of military and security policy experience. His appointment signals the company’s intent to deepen its institutional credibility as it pitches to defence ministries and allied forces.

The moves come against a challenging backdrop for the stock. DroneShield shares closed Monday at €1.52, up 2.01% on the day, yet the year-to-date decline stands at 23.31%. The stock is trading well below both its 50-day moving average of €1.84 and its 200-day average of €2.02. From the 52-week high of €3.65 reached in October 2025, the shares have shed 58.3%. The relative strength index sits at 42.1, suggesting the stock is emerging from a consolidation phase rather than entering oversold territory.

Volatility remains elevated at 71.18% over the past 30 days — typical for the defence-tech sector, where contract wins and news cycles can swing valuations sharply. Whether the quarterly update and SaaS pivot are enough to reverse the downward trend will depend on how quickly the subscription base translates into visible, recurring revenue growth. For now, DroneShield is betting that forcing software improvements into customers’ hands, even offline, is the surest path to turning a hardware-led pipeline into a predictable income stream.
