In early June, software giant SAP launched a global academic initiative giving universities such as the Technical University of Munich and the National University of Singapore free access to specialised software tools. The programme focuses on “Agentic AI” — autonomous systems capable of making decisions without human intervention. It aims to equip the next generation of employees for a world where, according to Gartner, 15% of all workplace decisions will be fully automated by 2028.

The move reflects a broader shift across European business. A study presented at the 18th Continuing Education Day in Vienna found that 68% of companies now view workforce upskilling as a strategic priority, with digitalisation and artificial intelligence leading the way. Fully 80% of firms surveyed say continuous training gives them a decisive competitive edge, and roughly one-third have already increased their training budgets. The mood toward AI is remarkably upbeat: 80% of companies say they are optimistic about introducing artificial intelligence into the workplace.

Consultancies Mandate AI Bootcamps

Major management consultancies are standardising their own training. Roland Berger has introduced compulsory one-to-two-week bootcamps for all new hires and employees before career steps. The programmes blend online learning with in-person sessions at conference hotels, and AI training is mandatory for the entire workforce.

Bain & Company uses a tiered system with “global flagship trainings” at each career level, including an induction week and foundational modules on data analysis and AI. For the DACH region, the firm founded the Bain Sustainability Academy back in 2022. kobaltblau opened a dedicated “IT sustainability” development centre in early 2023, helping clients meet ESG criteria and regulatory roadmaps.

Solar Sector Scales Up

The renewable-energy sector is expanding fast. Solar pioneer Enpal is doubling the monthly capacity of its training academy in Dahlewitz, Brandenburg. Since its founding in 2021, the academy has qualified more than 4,000 skilled workers. For the remainder of 2026, the company plans to train around 500 electricians — and for the first time, it is opening the programmes to external craft businesses. Enpal has also launched an international recruitment drive targeting skilled workers in Colombia and Brazil.

New Platforms and University Courses Fill the Gaps

Demand for AI expertise is spawning new business models. On 2 June 2026, former Google manager Evelyn Leu launched lifturskill, a platform offering AI webinars, workshops and coaching tailored to the DACH region. More than 20 trainers aim to close digital skill gaps in both corporate and private settings.

Higher education is also jumping in. The TU Wien is running a masterclass for executives on 19–20 June, led by Dr. Isabell Claus. Participants will develop AI roadmaps and learn to integrate autonomous technologies into existing business processes.

Traditional Trades Go High-Tech

Retraining is now reaching even the oldest crafts. The VGL Bayern concluded its “Talentschmiede” (talent forge) programme in Freising at the end of May, where top apprentices in the landscaping industry received training in smart-garden technology and digital planning.

In northern Germany’s hospitality sector, the Stralsund-based company ZUDUBI became a sponsoring member of the regional hotel and restaurant association DEHOGA MV in early June. It offers subsidised training in digitalisation and service quality, giving a fresh boost to an industry that often struggles to keep pace with technological change.
