European Lithium’s blistering run has hit a pause button, but the story is far from over. After a 154% year-to-date surge that saw the stock nearly sevenfold over twelve months, profit-taking has knocked the shares back to €0.24 – a weekly drop of almost 7% and a 16% slide over the past 30 days. The catalyst for the pullback lies partly with its Nasdaq-listed associate, Critical Metals Corp, which triggered a sell signal from an AI-driven model in late June. Yet beneath the short-term noise, a carefully choreographed corporate event is taking shape that could reshape the company’s ownership structure.

The merger roadmap between European Lithium and Critical Metals Corp – first agreed in May – is now locked in. Shareholders will receive official documents at the end of July, complete with an independent valuation, ahead of extraordinary general meetings slated for late August. If the deal gets the green light, closure is expected by early September. Under the terms, each European Lithium share will be swapped for 0.035 new shares in Critical Metals Corp, turning European Lithium investors directly into owners of the US-listed vehicle. The transaction centres on the Tanbreez rare earth project in Greenland, which will come under full control of the combined entity. Meanwhile, the company continues to advance its Wolfsberg lithium project in Austria, positioning itself as a local supplier for Europe’s battery industry, alongside exploration assets in Ireland and Ukraine.

Geopolitical winds are blowing in the company’s favour. China still refines roughly 70% of the world’s strategic minerals, including lithium and cobalt, while export quotas in Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Congo are squeezing supply. This resource nationalism is driving up prices and making projects outside Beijing’s orbit more attractive. European Lithium’s exposure to Greenland and Europe offers an alternative sourcing route that aligns with Western efforts to diversify critical mineral supply chains. The macro backdrop, however, is not uniformly supportive. The US Federal Reserve’s decision to hold its benchmark rate steady has strengthened the dollar, historically a headwind for commodity-linked equities. This tension between sector optimism and monetary policy is weighing on the stock.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying European Lithium?

On the technical side, the shares are currently oscillating around their 50-day moving average, having retreated from the 52-week high of €0.31 set in early June. That pullback is seen by some as a healthy consolidation after such a rapid advance. If the selling pressure continues, the next support level to watch is the 100-day line at €0.19. History suggests that periods of profit-taking in junior miners often precede significant catalysts, and the upcoming shareholder vote fits that pattern neatly.

Investors now have a clear calendar: the independent expert report due at the end of July will provide the final valuation benchmark for the deal. A positive opinion there could pave the way for a smooth approval in August. The fusion of European Lithium’s European assets with Critical Metals’ Nasdaq platform represents a bet that the market will eventually reward a simplified, pure-play structure focused on rare earths and lithium. For now, the share price is caught between short-term profit-taking and long-term merger momentum – a familiar pause in a journey that still has plenty of road ahead.
