The Hamburg-based drug discovery group is making a dual-pronged scientific push this week, with a heavy presence at the Antibody Industrial Symposium in Montpellier and a separate AI-focused conference in Basel. At the same time, investors are eyeing a much more tangible catalyst: the imminent close of the Tubulis sale to Gilead Sciences, expected to inject roughly $100m into Evotec’s coffers during the current quarter.

The company’s specialists are presenting advances in antibody development and immuno-oncology therapies in Montpellier, while in Basel Evotec is talking up its new AI-driven drug discovery models. Both events are designed as shop windows for future partnerships — crucial given that the group is still in the middle of an operational turnaround. No large-scale contract has been announced alongside the conferences, leaving the stock reliant on broader market and internal restructuring momentum.

That broader environment has improved after the US Supreme Court ruled in favour of Bayer in the glyphosate dispute, easing sector-wide concerns about unpredictable litigation risks. Evotec’s shares have stabilised just above €4.88, holding exactly at the 38-day moving average. On a weekly basis the stock is up around 6%, but year-to-date the decline remains roughly 11% to 12%, depending on the day's pricing. The 50-day moving average at €5.01 remains the key near-term resistance, with the 100-day line further above if that level is breached.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?

Under the hood, the company’s management is pushing ahead with the “Horizon” cost-cutting programme, targeting €75m of annual savings by the end of 2027. That drive is being complemented by a deeper embrace of artificial intelligence: in June, Evotec appointed Rui Wang as its new AI chief to accelerate drug development. The technological shift has already sparked takeover speculation in industry circles, with some analysts suggesting large pharma groups could view Evotec as a prime acquisition candidate.

Yet the financial reality remains sobering. In the first quarter of 2026, Evotec posted an operating loss of nearly €22m on revenue of roughly €157m. The full-year revenue guidance stands at €700m to €780m, with adjusted operating earnings forecast between zero and €40m. Management has labelled the current year a transition period, with operational improvements only expected to become clearly visible in the second half.

The upcoming Tubulis cash injection — roughly $100m from the sale to Gilead — will provide welcome liquidity as the company works to convert the scientific interest generated in Montpellier and Basel into concrete partnerships and higher capacity utilisation. For now, the share price action suggests investors are watching for that translational step: science alone has not been enough to shift the needle, and the chart remains below both the 50-day and 200-day averages, the latter at €5.53. A sustained move above €5.01 could mark the first real technical relief and open the path toward the 100-day line.
