Friedrich Vorwerk Secures Key Hydrogen Pipeline Contract as Analysts See Upside
Published on 07/20/2026 at 19:02 | Redaktion boerse-global.deFriedrich Vorwerk is turning a corner. After months of regulatory uncertainty that weighed on the stock, the German energy infrastructure specialist has landed a flagship hydrogen project that is shifting investor attention back to the order book. Shares rallied nearly 8% on Monday, climbing to €66.55 and clearing their 50-day moving average — a technical sign of renewed momentum. The advance still leaves the stock roughly 20% below its level at the start of 2026, giving the company a market capitalisation of around €1.24 billion.
The contract that sparked the move is “H2Coastlink 1,” a 24?kilometre high?pressure hydrogen pipeline linking Emden and Leer in northwestern Germany. The project, which will connect a 320 MW electrolysis plant to the regional transmission network, is being built by Friedrich Vorwerk as part of a consortium. Preparations begin this summer, with commissioning planned for autumn 2027. The order value is in the double?digit million euro range and benefits from funding under the European IPCEI hydrogen programme. The pipeline marks a concrete step in the build?out of Germany’s planned hydrogen core network, and demonstrates the company’s transition from traditional gas infrastructure to the emerging hydrogen economy.
The news has also reinforced analysts’ conviction. Berenberg has reiterated its buy recommendation on the stock with a price target of €110 per share. Analyst Lasse Stueben argues that the market has been overestimating the negative implications of recent changes to underground cable legislation, while underestimating the growth potential from natural gas grid modernisation, carbon transport, and hydrogen storage. Friedrich Vorwerk’s domestic market leadership, he believes, provides a solid base for further expansion across Europe.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Friedrich Vorwerk?
Yet the path to higher valuations is not without risk. With long?duration projects now filling the pipeline, investors are watching margins closely. Management will have a chance to reassure the market in August, when the company reports second?quarter 2026 results. The outcome of that earnings release — particularly cost control and project timeliness — could determine whether the share price can sustain its recovery or retreat into the regulatory shadows that dominated earlier this year.
For now, the narrative has shifted. The focus is on real contracts and the accelerating timeline for Germany’s hydrogen backbone, which is being eased by faster planning procedures from Berlin. Friedrich Vorwerk’s order book is thickening, and the next major milestone — the completion of H2Coastlink 1 in 2027 — will test whether the company can translate its pipeline into sustainable profit growth.
