LPKF Laser: Order Intake Accelerates While Sales Stall — and UBS Adds to Its Bet

The timing of LPKF Laser & Electronics' customer day in Garbsen was no accident. With live demos of its CuttingMaster system and workshops on laser depaneling of PCBs, the company aimed to capitalize on a first-quarter surge in demand for precision cutting tools. But the market mood was less cooperative: shares slipped 4.12% to €25.60 on the day, extending a retreat from the 52-week high of €30.20 touched on June 22.
The disconnect between operational momentum and stock price is a recurring theme for LPKF right now. While the Electronics segment saw order intake jump to €24.1 million in the first three months of 2026 — pushing the book-to-bill ratio to a healthy 1.4 — revenue dropped sharply to €17.1 million from €25.3 million a year earlier. The culprit was the weak solar business, which dragged EBIT into negative territory at -€6.9 million.
Against that mixed backdrop, the UBS Group AG has quietly increased its exposure. The Swiss bank now holds 3.17% of LPKF’s voting rights, up from 3.12%, after crossing the 3% threshold on June 18. The stake comprises 735,476 shares and 40,641 instruments, underscoring institutional interest even as the stock’s annualized 30-day volatility hit 133%. Since the start of the year, the share price has exploded by 344%, with the gap to the 200-day moving average of €10.26 now exceeding 160%.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying LPKF Laser?
What has fueled that rally is not current profitability but future promise — particularly around LPKF’s LIDE technology for glass processing in semiconductors and Advanced Packaging. The company has confirmed ongoing tests with multiple chip customers and talks about initial production systems. Yet those orders, if they materialize, are not factored into the 2026 guidance, which targets revenue between €105 million and €120 million and an adjusted EBIT margin of -3.0% to 4.5%.
The next checkpoint is July 23, when LPKF publishes its half-year report. Investors will be watching whether the strong order intake from the first quarter can convert into actual revenue growth and whether the Advanced Packaging narrative gains hard evidence. Until then, the stock’s 15% slide from its peak suggests the market is demanding proof.
