Maxus Mining runs parallel metallurgical tests and diamond drilling at Alturas West, aiming to prove processing efficiency. VTEM survey and First Nations talks support the campaign. Antimony remains critical as prices surge 171% since 2024.

In an unusual break from the junior mining playbook, Maxus Mining is running early-stage metallurgical tests alongside its diamond drilling campaign at Alturas West in British Columbia. The dual-track strategy aims to fast-track economic assessments by proving not just that the metal is in the ground, but that it can be processed efficiently.

The company plans up to 2,000 metres of diamond drilling targeting both historically defined zones and newly identified targets from recent fieldwork. The programme is the first modern exploration at the historic Alps-Alturas mine, which once produced rock grading over 57% antimony. Drilling will test the depth, strike extension and grade continuity of the mineralised system.

What sets the campaign apart is the parallel metallurgical work. Maxus intends to launch ore-sorting studies and other early-stage beneficiation trials before a resource estimate is even in sight. The idea is to reject barren waste rock as early as possible in the flow sheet, potentially lowering downstream processing costs and boosting head grades. For a junior explorer, that kind of pre-development thinking can be a powerful lever when it comes to proving economic viability.

Before the drill bit turns, Maxus has contracted Geotech Ltd. to fly a VTEM (versatile time-domain electromagnetic) survey over the project area. The airborne geophysics, which targets conductive zones and magnetic contrasts at depths of 300 to 500 metres, will be integrated with historical data and recent field mapping. The resulting structural interpretation is expected to refine drill targets by highlighting shear zones, sediment-hosted systems and intrusion-adjacent mineralisation.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Maxus Mining?

Parallel talks with local First Nations remain a prerequisite for summer fieldwork. Securing community consent and regulatory approvals is an operational priority that the company is managing alongside its technical preparations.

The macro backdrop continues to support antimony’s strategic appeal. The metal is classified as critical by the European Union, the United States and China, owing to its use in flame retardants, lead-acid batteries, alloys and defence applications. China’s export controls in late 2024 disrupted global supply chains and sent prices surging. Although the market has since corrected, antimony still commands US$51.80 per kilogram — a 36% decline from the June 2025 peak, but a staggering 171% above the level at the start of 2024.

The share price has not yet reflected the commodity story. Maxus Mining closed Friday in Frankfurt at €0.55, up 4.14% on the day. On a weekly basis, the stock gained nearly 10%, signalling tentative buyer interest. Year-to-date, however, it remains down 52.24%. The relative strength index (RSI) of 25 points to a technically oversold condition — a signal that typically attracts attention but does not by itself reverse a downtrend.

Maxus Mining at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

In the weeks ahead, attention will shift from planning to execution. First results from the VTEM survey, followed by drill mobilisation and initial metallurgical test work, will determine whether Maxus can transform its ambitious thesis into credible data.
