For all the news Medtronic generated on a single day — a major regulatory green light and a $550 million deal — its shares barely budged. Trading at €67.98, the stock has fallen roughly 17% since the start of the year and sits about 26% below its 52-week high of €91.50. The market’s indifference tells a story of its own: while the company moves aggressively on several growth fronts, investors are still waiting for proof that those moves will actually lift profit and revenue.

The most significant catalyst came from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which cleared Medtronic’s Vision 3D™ portfolio of wireless heart implants. The line includes implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy devices, and pacemakers — all built without the traditional leads that can fail or cause patient discomfort. Medtronic plans to start delivering the first units for clinical use in the coming months, securing a strong early position in the leadless segment as competitors scramble to catch up.

On the metabolic side, the company has taken aim at diabetes market leaders Dexcom and Abbott with the launch of its smallest insulin pump yet, the MiniMed Flex system. Designed for patients aged seven and up, the pump is controlled via smartphone and paired with the Simplera Sync sensor — a continuous glucose monitor that requires no additional adhesive tape. The system is being rolled out in the U.S., adding pressure to an already competitive field.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Medtronic?

Medtronic is also bolstering its higher-margin specialty businesses. The acquisition of Scientia Vascular, completed for $550 million in cash, brings a suite of specialized guidewires and catheters used in neurovascular procedures such as stroke and aneurysm treatment. That complements a parallel push into emerging markets: in India, Medtronic has begun selling the PulseSelect system, which uses pulsed electric fields to treat atrial fibrillation with less damage to surrounding tissue than conventional heat-based methods. An estimated seven million people in India suffer from heart rhythm disorders, offering a sizable addressable market.

Shareholders can look forward to a quarterly dividend of $0.71 in July, and management expects organic revenue growth of roughly 7% for the current fiscal year. Medtronic has been a Dividend Aristocrat for 50 consecutive years, a track record that tends to appeal to patient long-term investors.

Yet near-term sentiment remains cautious. The stock has recovered about 8% from its early June low, but the Relative Strength Index of 48 suggests no clear directional bias. Barron’s recently described Medtronic as “poised for a rebound,” citing an estimated 22% undervaluation relative to a projected intrinsic value of $99.74 per share, according to GuruFocus. Whether that discount closes will likely depend on how quickly Vision 3D and the Scientia integration translate into real revenue — something the autumn earnings report for fiscal 2027 will begin to clarify.
