Micron Technology has delivered a rare one-two punch this week that underscores its transformation from a cyclical memory maker into a structural play on the AI and automotive infrastructure buildout. The company inked a strategic supply agreement with General Motors while simultaneously drawing two of the most aggressive price targets ever seen on Wall Street — a combination that pushed shares nearly 6% higher on Friday to €902.30.

The GM partnership goes well beyond a standard procurement deal. The two companies will jointly develop future memory technologies tailored to next-generation vehicle architectures, with a particular focus on advanced driver-assistance systems and in-cockpit AI functions. To support this push, Micron is pouring roughly $2 billion into modernising its Manassas, Virginia facility, where production began earlier this year. The investment is part of a broader effort to fortify local supply chains and avoid the disruptions that plagued the semiconductor industry during recent crises.

That automotive anchor comes on top of a core business already operating at full throttle. Micron’s high-bandwidth memory chips have been sold out for the entire calendar year 2026, and the vast majority of 2027 output is also under reservation. The scarcity has given the company extraordinary pricing power — its core DRAM prices have surged about 215% year over year, while NAND prices jumped roughly 272%. Gross margins have climbed to 84.9%, a level that even outpaces Nvidia.

Analyst Targets Shatter Records

The supply tightness prompted two major Wall Street firms to issue historically high price targets in the same week. Susquehanna raised its target to $2,000, while Phillip Securities analyst Yik Ban Chong lifted his target by an astonishing 252% from $530 to $1,870, maintaining a Buy rating. Chong cited a structural supply deficit that he expects to persist well beyond 2027.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron?

The bullish case rests on more than just market dynamics. Micron has locked in 16 non-cancellable take-or-pay supply agreements running three to five years. Each major contract includes a price floor, insulating Micron’s margins even if the broader memory market softens. That structure has fundamentally changed the company’s risk profile — one reason quarterly revenue surged 346% to $41.46 billion, with adjusted earnings per share of $25.11.

To meet demand, Micron is doubling capital expenditures this fiscal year. For fiscal 2026, capex is slated to hit roughly $27 billion, and for 2027 the budget could exceed $40 billion. Management now expects free cash flow of more than $30 billion in the fourth fiscal quarter alone.

A Rival Emerges and the Market Hesitates

Even as the fundamental picture brightens, a new competitive threat looms. SK Hynix, one of the world’s largest memory chip makers and a leader in high-bandwidth memory, plans to begin trading on the Nasdaq on July 10. The Korean giant’s listing could test whether Micron can retain its valuation premium — especially after a recent pullback.

Micron at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Despite the week’s positive catalysts, Micron shares remain well off their highs. The stock closed at €854.00 on Thursday, 22.63% below the 52-week peak of €1,103.80 set on June 25. On a one-week basis, the stock shed 14.22%, and the 30-day decline stands at 8.36%. Profit-taking has been evident, though the longer-term trajectory tells a different story: year-to-date the stock is up 217.47%, and over the past twelve months it has rallied 722.10%. From the August 2025 trough of €90.64, the gain is an extraordinary 842.19%.

A consensus of 45 analysts tracked by S&P Global rates the stock Strong Buy, with an average price target of $1,486 — roughly 44% above current levels. Individual estimates span from $361 to $2,200, a dispersion that reflects deep disagreement over how long the current memory super-cycle can last. The next big test arrives with SK Hynix’s Nasdaq debut, an event that will reveal whether Micron’s long-term supply contracts have truly recast it as a structural AI infrastructure bet rather than a classic cyclical memory play.
