The bull case for Micron Technology has undergone a quiet but profound transformation. No longer is the company discussed in the same breath as run-of-the-mill memory chip makers, subject to the brutal boom-and-bust cycles that have defined the industry for decades. Instead, analysts are treating Micron as a core piece of the artificial-intelligence infrastructure puzzle — a supplier with pricing power that could stretch well into 2027. Yet the stock, already up more than 230% since the start of the year, faces its most critical test on June 24, when the company reports fiscal third-quarter results.

That date looms large for a reason. In the span of just a few days, three prominent sell-side firms have raised their price targets on Micron to levels that would have seemed fanciful a year ago. RBC Capital, on June 15, more than doubled its target to $1,200 from $525, maintaining an “outperform” rating. TD Cowen went even further, lifting its target from $660 to $1,500, citing higher DRAM content per gigawatt and pricing persistence through the second half of calendar 2027. Aletheia Capital topped them all with a $1,600 target, switching its valuation methodology from a historical price-to-book approach to a price-to-earnings model based on 2027 estimates.

The common thread across these calls is not just optimism — it is a conviction that the current memory upcycle is structurally different from its predecessors. RBC notes that the DRAM expansion is already in its 12th quarter, well past the eight-to-nine-quarter span typical of the 2014 and 2018 cycles. Yet the bank sees room for another five to six quarters of growth, driven by subdued supply expansion through late 2027, tight cleanroom capacity, and insatiable demand from generative AI, inference workloads, and agentic AI applications. The message is clear: Micron is no longer a cyclical commodity play; it is an AI bottleneck with multi-year pricing leverage.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron?

None of that has shielded the stock from a recent pullback. On Tuesday, Micron shares slipped 4% to €898.00 after touching a fresh all-time high earlier in the session. The retreat came even as the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index surged more than 5% to a record — suggesting Micron’s decline was stock-specific, not sector-wide. Still, the move barely dented the longer-term trajectory. The shares remain well above their 50-day moving average of roughly €609, and over the past 30 days they have surged approximately 62%. The relative strength index sits at 67.9, strong but not yet in overbought territory.

The company is currently exhibiting at the HPE Discover conference in Las Vegas, where it is showcasing its latest memory solutions for AI infrastructure and cloud networking. Production of HBM4 memory for Nvidia’s forthcoming Vera-Rubin platform is already running at full tilt, alongside high-volume manufacturing of specialized SSD drives for data centers. This product-market alignment is reflected in the numbers from fiscal Q2: revenue exploded to $23.86 billion from just over $8 billion a year earlier, and net income approached $14 billion. Operating cash flow hit $11.90 billion.

For the third quarter, management has guided for revenue of $33.5 billion and non-GAAP earnings per share of $19.15. The market, however, is no longer simply looking for a confirmation of that guidance. What investors want — and what the analysts are betting on — are signals about pricing discipline, demand visibility, and the ramp of high-bandwidth memory well into 2027. The annualized 30-day volatility of nearly 103% underscores the nervousness. With the stock priced for perfection, any hint of deceleration could trigger aggressive profit-taking.

The June 24 report will therefore serve as an inflection point. If management validates the narrative of a sustained, multi-year upcycle, the current consolidation phase will likely end quickly, and the shares could resume their ascent toward the new analyst targets. If the outlook disappoints, the valuation — now built on assumptions of perpetual scarcity — will come under immediate pressure. The stage is set for a decisive moment, and all eyes are on the memory maker’s next move.
