The iShares MSCI World ETF holds near $200 as hedge funds dump US tech at fastest pace since 2016, while SpaceX's rapid index entry forces buying. Rotation gains momentum.

The iShares MSCI World ETF is weathering a tug-of-war between a deepening rotation out of US technology stocks and a forced buying spree triggered by SpaceX’s lightning-fast inclusion in the underlying index. With its relative strength index parked in neutral territory — 49.6 on 28 June, barely budging to 50.5 two weeks later — the fund is neither overbought nor oversold, reflecting a market caught between diverging currents.

The rotation has been gathering speed. Hedge funds unloaded American IT equities in the week to 25 June at a pace not seen since 2016, driving the collective weighting of the Magnificent Seven in institutional portfolios to just 14.5 percent, its lowest level in three years. Geopolitics lit the fuse: reports of peace talks between the US and Iran, with delegations heading to Qatar, shifted sentiment on Monday. Communication services, industrials and financial stocks led the bounce, while tech lagged despite nominal gains. The ETF closed at $200.64 on the day, up 0.61 percent over seven days but down 2.30 percent over 30.

The proceeds from tech sales are migrating into health care, finance and industrial names. That shift is visible in the breadth of the market: the Dow Jones Industrial Average has notched fresh highs even as the Nasdaq has slid roughly 7 percent from its June peak. Microsoft, Alphabet and Nvidia face growing scrutiny over their heavy capital spending on artificial intelligence, a trend that makes the rotation more structural than tactical.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying MSCI World ETF?

Into this mix comes SpaceX, which listed on 12 June 2026. Thanks to MSCI’s fast-track rule, the stock entered the index barely ten trading days later, forcing BlackRock’s ETF to buy shares from 29 June to match the new weightings. The addition strengthens the fund’s industrial and technology sleeves — already heavily tilted toward US mega-caps. Nvidia leads the portfolio at 5.23 percent, followed by Apple at 4.90 percent and Microsoft at 2.94 percent. Amazon and both Alphabet share classes together account for just over 4 percent. The ETF holds 1,285 securities across 23 developed markets.

Macro conditions support the broader shift. Bank of America has lifted its global growth forecast for 2026 to 3.2 percent, powered by the US AI investment boom and an export-led tech cycle in Asia. South Korea plans to plough roughly €569 billion into chip and AI infrastructure by 2030. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said on Monday that the European economy is showing growing resilience to external shocks, a stabilizing factor for the ETF’s European components.

The fund’s annualised 30-day volatility stands at 14.91 percent — moderate for a period of structural churn. With assets of nearly $7.9 billion and an expense ratio of 0.24 percent, the ETF ended the first half near $200 per share. For the second quarter, analysts project S&P 500 earnings growth of 23.1 percent. If those numbers hold, the rotation has solid fundamentals to rest on.
