Nebius: Nvidia’s $2 Billion Vote of Confidence and the Meta Cloud Conundrum

The sheer contradiction of Nebius’s recent headlines tells you everything about how this stock trades. On Thursday, chip giant Nvidia committed $2 billion to the AI infrastructure specialist — a capital injection that sent shares up 2.02% to €193 on Friday. Yet just days earlier, the stock had been hammered 17% in a single session on fears that one of its largest clients, Meta Platforms, was plotting to become a competitor. Welcome to the high-wire act of owning a pure-play AI cloud builder.
Nvidia’s cash infusion is earmarked for exactly what investors want to see: more steel, more servers, more speed. Nebius plans to expand its data-center power load from the current 170 megawatts to between 800 megawatts and one gigawatt by the end of 2026. That build-out is the foundation for management’s ambition to push the company’s annualized recurring revenue rate from today’s roughly $1.9 billion to between $7 billion and $9 billion around the same timeframe. The capital commitment from Nvidia — a name synonymous with the AI boom — carries a market-moving endorsement few other players in the space can claim.
The same week brought a stark reminder of what happens when that endorsement teeters. Reports that Meta might one day sell its own GPU-cluster capacity triggered a violent sell-off in Nebius and other so-called “neocloud” providers. The sell-off looked particularly brutal given the scale of Nebius’s existing ties: Meta signed a five-year agreement worth $27 billion, with $12 billion of that in firm commitments and another $15 billion in optional capacity. If the world’s fourth-largest company starts marketing its own infrastructure, the worry goes, customers like Nebius suddenly become rivals.
But the market’s panic appears to have been overdone. Research firm SemiAnalysis pushed back hard, arguing that Meta’s own AI ambitions require ever more external partners, not fewer. Roth Capital also described the neocloud sell-off as excessive, according to market reports. Nebius management itself noted that the structure of the accord lets it juggle capacity between Meta and higher-margin AI cloud customers, preserving wiggle room even if Meta’s plans shift.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?
The financial engine driving all this drama remains remarkably powerful. In the first quarter of 2026, Nebius’s cloud revenue surged 841% year on year to $390 million, pushing total quarterly revenue to $399 million — comfortably ahead of analyst estimates. The bottom line still shows a loss of $0.23 per share, but the growth trajectory is staggering: just a year ago, the company was turning over $105 million in a single quarter. By the fourth quarter, the annualized revenue rate had hit $1.25 billion, and full-year 2026 revenue is expected to top $3 billion, with potential for another doubling in 2027.
Beyond the core cloud business, the autonomous delivery fleet Avride handled 174,000 deliveries in Q1, a 178% annual jump that pushes its lifetime tally past half a million. And on the energy side, a partnership with Bloom Energy is adding fuel-cell capacity to power the data center build-out.
The stock’s chart tells the story of a name that has skyrocketed and then taken a breather. At the all-time high of €261, set on June 22 — the very day Nebius joined the Nasdaq-100 index — the shares were up more than 400% from last July’s 52-week low of €38. Even after the recent 26% pullback from that peak, the stock has still gained 152% year-to-date and 385% over twelve months. Friday’s close at €193 sits just 2% below the 50-day moving average of €196.93, while the distance to the 200-day average of €117.87 remains a chunky 64% — a measure of how far the stock has traveled in less than a year.
The relative strength index, at 46.6, lands squarely in neutral territory, giving little directional signal after the recent volatility. That volatility itself is telling: the 30-day annualised figure tops 99%, underlining how sensitive the shares are to headlines. Analysts, for their part, still see the glass as half full. The consensus rating is “Moderate Buy,” though the price targets span a wide range from $144 to $380 — a spread reflecting the deep uncertainty around just how big the neocloud market will become and how much of it Nebius can capture.
Nebius at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Inside the company, recent weeks saw a familiar pattern among high-growth tech names: insider profit-taking. CEO Arkadiy Volozh sold 46,627 shares for roughly $10.98 million, while CTO Danila Shtan and CIO Andrey Korolenko cashed out $3.99 million and $7.97 million worth, respectively. Such moves are often chalked up to personal portfolio diversification, and they come alongside a different type of buying: Swedbank AB increased its stake by 8.9% in the first quarter.
With a market cap of €48.1 billion and enormous capital requirements — the company is planning $20 billion to $25 billion in capital expenditure for 2026 alone — Nebius is betting everything on a future where AI infrastructure demand far outstrips supply. Nvidia’s $2 billion is a powerful down payment on that thesis. But the shadow of Meta, both as a customer and a potential competitor, will keep the stock’s volatility elevated until the details of that relationship become clearer. For now, the recovery from the 17% scare suggests that many investors still believe the bull case outweighs the bear.
