In a bizarre logistical incident, Nestlé has confirmed the loss of a substantial cargo of KitKat chocolate bars during transit. The shipment, weighing approximately 12 tons and equivalent to over 400,000 individual bars, was en route from Italy to various destinations across Europe when both the truck and its load disappeared. While the direct financial impact of the loss is likely manageable for a global giant of Nestlé's scale, the event highlights persistent security vulnerabilities within international supply chains.
Historic Waste Disposal Case Reaches Court
Simultaneously, the company is contending with a serious legal matter in France. A key hearing took place last Friday in a Nancy courtroom, where Nestlé Waters sought a full acquittal in a case concerning illegal plastic waste deposits at mineral water bottling sites in the Vosges region.

Prosecutors, however, are seeking a penalty of €750,000 alongside a comprehensive cleanup of the affected sites. The proceedings have attracted attention from regional activists, who have planned protests in Nancy.
Share Performance Reflects Broader Caution
On the trading floor, Nestlé's equity has mirrored this unsettled news flow with a subdued performance. Shares closed the week down 0.61% at €82.56. This decline extends a short-term weakening trend, with the stock recording a loss of 9.16% over the past 30 trading sessions. The gap to its 52-week high has now widened to nearly 13%.
This performance also aligns with a generally cautious environment on the Swiss stock market, which has recently been dampened by concerns over rising energy prices.
