OHB SE's shares drop to €236 after a €484M capital increase dilutes holdings, but a record €3.35B order book and oversold RSI signal potential rebound.

OHB SE has wrapped up a capital increase that pumped nearly half a billion euros into its coffers — but the market is still digesting the flood of new shares. Since the deal’s closing, the stock has tumbled roughly 40% in 30 days, hitting €236.00, well below the €300-per-share price that institutional investors paid in June. The offering, which generated gross proceeds of around €484 million for the Bremen-based space and defence group, was part of a larger €789 million placement that included a €418 million secondary sale by shareholder KKR. More than 200 investors subscribed, and the bulk of the new equity — 94% — landed with institutional buyers via a private placement.

The sell-off has been so sharp that not even a high-profile visit from Germany’s defence minister could steady the shares. Boris Pistorius toured OHB’s Bremen halls on 14 July, calling the company the “backbone of German security” and a national champion. Yet the rhetorical support did little to arrest the decline, which stems primarily from a mechanical adjustment: the sudden surge in free float has diluted existing holdings and overwhelmed the secondary market.

Operationally, the picture looks far brighter. OHB’s order book stands at a record more than €3.35 billion, and revenue expanded 21% in its most recent period. The company plans to channel the fresh capital into manufacturing capacity, potential acquisitions, and its rocket business. Its project pipeline stretches from the RAMSES asteroid-defence mission to the KIRK artificial-intelligence joint venture, anchoring it deep in Europe’s space strategy.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

Chart watchers are now fixated on the 200-day moving average, which sits at €237.52 — almost exactly where the stock currently trades. A sustained break below that level could intensify selling pressure. The Relative Strength Index, at 31.5, has entered oversold territory, often a precursor to at least a short-term bounce. But whether that bounce turns into a genuine reversal depends on how quickly institutional buyers regain conviction after the dilution shock.

OHB’s pain is not occurring in a vacuum. The broader space sector is under a cloud: Rocket Lab’s shares have shed about 56% after a prior rally, and SpaceX has slipped below its IPO price as short sellers stepped up bets. A failed Starship test flight compounded the negative mood, fuelling questions about whether the industry’s valuations justified the growth fantasies priced in earlier this year.

Despite the bruising month, the long-term arithmetic remains startling. OHB stock is still up 94% year-to-date and 233% over twelve months. Investors who bought into the hype last spring are nursing losses, but those who held for a year are sitting on handsome gains. The current correction is, in many ways, the price of restructuring the shareholder base — and the company has the cash and the contracts to execute its next phase.
