SK Hynix’s stock has stormed to a fresh 52-week high, propelled by a one-two punch: the rollout of its next-generation HBM4E memory chips to major customers and an accelerating push to list on the Nasdaq. The South Korean semiconductor giant’s shares hit 2,891,000 KRW on Friday, leaving the stock up roughly 303% since the start of the year.

The company confirmed it has started dispatching samples of its 12-layer HBM4E chips to big clients. Each pin can handle data at 16 gigabits per second, while power consumption has been slashed by more than a fifth compared with the previous generation — a critical advantage for energy-hungry AI data centers. To achieve that, SK Hynix relies on an advanced MR-MUF packaging process that packs 48 gigabytes into a 12-layer stack and cuts thermal resistance by 17%. Rival Samsung Electronics has already been shipping its own 12-layer HBM4E samples since early June, setting the stage for a fierce battle to supply the next wave of AI accelerators.

Parallel to the product push, SK Hynix is closing in on its long-awaited US stock market debut. The company filed a confidential registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission back in March, and regulatory clearance could come as early as the week starting June 22. Under the plan, the shares would trade in New York through American Depositary Receipts, with a listing tentatively scheduled for August 2026. The size and exact timing remain under wraps, but the goal is clear: open the door to international investors who find it cumbersome to buy Korean-listed stocks.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SK Hynix?

The market’s enthusiasm has pushed the relative strength index to 73.5, technically in overbought territory, though veteran traders note that strong uptrends can sustain elevated RSI readings. The stock’s annualized 30-day volatility stands at nearly 96%, underscoring the aggressive repricing underway. Away from the HBM spotlight, SK Hynix also used the HPE Discover conference in Las Vegas this week to showcase certified data-center SSDs and DDR5 memory modules, reinforcing its broader infrastructure portfolio.

For now, the focus remains on the validation phase: the company has not disclosed which customers are testing the HBM4E samples nor set a firm date for mass production. A smooth transition into volume manufacturing would unlock substantial orders from the likes of Nvidia, with whom SK Hynix has long collaborated on memory solutions for next-generation AI chips. Coupled with the imminent SEC green light, the next few weeks promise to be pivotal for the stock.
