SK Hynix pulls forward HBM4E samples for Nvidia, eyes August Nasdaq debut, as a concrete trucker strike risks delaying its Yongin semiconductor cluster expansion.

SK Hynix is sprinting on multiple tracks at once. The South Korean memory chip giant has pulled forward samples of its next-generation HBM4E memory — now heading to key customers this month or next, earlier than the second-half timeline originally planned — while simultaneously advancing its plan to list on the Nasdaq as early as August. Yet a wildcat strike by 8,000 concrete truck drivers in the Seoul metropolitan area has brought construction at the company’s new Yongin semiconductor cluster to a standstill, threatening to slow the capacity expansion that underpins those ambitions.

The accelerated HBM4E samples are designed for Nvidia’s next accelerator platform, “Rubin Ultra,” which is slated for next year. High Bandwidth Memory is the critical component in AI accelerators, and SK Hynix already holds the leading market share in the HBM segment. Delivering next-generation samples ahead of schedule should cement its relationship with Nvidia and reinforce its competitive edge against rivals like Micron Technology. Meanwhile, the planned Nasdaq listing via American Depositary Receipts — a deliberate choice over the New York Stock Exchange, given the exchange’s concentration of AI-focused tech names — targets a broader global investor base and could help close the valuation gap with US peers. The US Securities and Exchange Commission is expected to grant approval in June, making an August listing a realistic possibility. With a market capitalisation of roughly $1 trillion and a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.13, SK Hynix brings a solid financial foundation to the table.

The concrete trucker strike, which began on June 9, has halted concrete deliveries across the wider Seoul area, affecting 105 construction sites nationwide. Alongside SK Hynix’s Yongin complex, Samsung’s Pyeongtaek campus has also been impacted. The union is demanding higher tariffs, and a proposed settlement was rejected by members. SK Hynix has said the short-term effect on its build is limited — it had adjusted the construction sequence and pulled forward some work in advance. But if the walkout drags on, the timetable for bringing new capacity online could come under pressure. Importantly, the strike does not disrupt ongoing chip production; the Yongin project is a greenfield build. This makes it a capacity-timing risk rather than an immediate supply-chain issue, but timing matters when demand from the AI segment continues to climb and SK Hynix is staking its reputation on the ability to ramp production quickly.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SK Hynix?

The stock market has so far taken the disruption in stride. SK Hynix shares closed Friday at 2,150,000 KRW, up nearly 5% on the day. That puts the year-to-date gain at roughly 218%, more than tripling since January, and the stock has more than quadrupled from its 52-week low in October 2025. On a monthly basis, the shares have added about 9%. Even so, the current price remains about 11% below the all-time high of 2,407,000 KRW reached on June 2. The relative strength index at 58.4 suggests the stock is no longer overheated, but with annualised 30-day volatility above 100%, even seemingly isolated news items can trigger sharp moves.

All eyes are now on the strike’s trajectory in the coming week. If the union relents quickly, the effect on operations and investor sentiment is likely to be minimal. A prolonged disruption, however, would force SK Hynix to provide concrete updates on the Yongin timeline — and could test the market’s confidence in its capacity growth narrative just as the HBM4E launch and Nasdaq debut are building momentum.
