A significant leadership transition at Alphabet is highlighting the growing importance of its partnership with chipmaker Broadcom. The company's Chief Financial Officer, Amie Thuener, will assume the same role at Broadcom starting June 12, 2026, succeeding the outgoing Kirsten M. Spears. Her compensation package includes a base salary of $700,000, a signing bonus of one million dollars, and an award of 100,000 stock units.

This executive move coincides with a major expansion of the technological collaboration between the two firms. Alphabet and Broadcom have extended their joint development agreement for AI accelerators—specifically Google's Tensor Processing Units (TPUs)—through at least 2031. Under the terms, Broadcom will continue to serve as the lead development partner. Current production is focused on the TPU v7, codenamed "Ironwood," with its successor, the TPU v8 ("Sunfish/Zebrafish") built on a 2-nanometer process, slated for 2027.

AI Infrastructure Emerges as a New Revenue Stream

A pivotal aspect of the renewed agreement involves AI startup Anthropic. Beginning in 2027, Anthropic is set to gain access to 3.5 gigawatts of TPU computing capacity. This arrangement marks a strategic shift for Alphabet, positioning it for the first time as a provider of AI infrastructure to third-party companies.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Alphabet?

Analysts from Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan point to the commercial potential of selling TPU capacity to external clients such as Anthropic and Meta, noting it could have a meaningful impact on Alphabet's earnings per share. Furthermore, the company's in-house hardware strategy may provide it with a cost advantage compared to relying on traditional GPU suppliers.

Upcoming Earnings to Provide Strategic Clarity

Market attention now turns to Alphabet's first-quarter 2026 results, scheduled for release on April 28. Investors anticipate these figures will offer insights into the margin profile of the company's substantial infrastructure investments and the progress of integrating its Gemini 3 AI model into core products. Currently, Alphabet's shares trade approximately ten percent below their all-time high reached in February. The forthcoming earnings report may indicate whether the company's strategic realignment is beginning to translate into financial performance.
