Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders have been live since 25 June, and the frenzy has already reshaped Take-Two Interactive’s stock. The shares closed last week at €223.20, having touched a high of €224.60, within striking distance of their 52-week peak. Over the past month the equity has surged roughly 20%, leaving many technical indicators flashing red.

The Relative Strength Index has climbed to 73.8, firmly above the 70 threshold that signals an overbought condition. Annualised volatility stands above 31%, reflecting the mounting nervousness among traders betting on a single product cycle. The stock now trades 13.5% above its 50-day moving average, suggesting the rally may be stretched.

Analysts remain overwhelmingly bullish despite the elevated valuation. Twenty-nine of thirty covering the stock recommend buying, though JPMorgan recently removed Take-Two from its focus list — a move attributed to internal sector coverage guidelines rather than a change in fundamental view. Bank of America’s Omar Dessouky has set the highest price target on Wall Street at $368, pointing to stronger-than-expected revenue from GTA Online. BMO Capital maintains a $285 target with a Buy rating.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Take-Two?

Yet a wave of insider selling has drawn attention. Executives have cashed out $135.3 million worth of shares over the past three months. While such sales ahead of a major product launch are not unusual, the volume at these record levels is notable.

The company’s finances are currently under pressure. Take-Two is posting net losses as heavy development costs and mobile-game integration weigh on results. Management has laid out a clear recovery path: net income is expected to rebound to between $105 million and $141 million in fiscal 2027, driven by a surge in net bookings to as much as $8.2 billion. That would represent roughly 20% growth and push Rockstar Games’ contribution from just 16% of net bookings last year to 36%.

All eyes are on 19 November 2026, the official release date for GTA VI. Market research firm DFC Intelligence forecasts 40 million units sold in the first year, generating $3.2 billion in revenue. Analysts estimate first-day sales could generate between $1 billion and $2 billion, with some external projections stretching as high as $3 billion for early pre-order revenue. The options market reflects this optimism: call contracts for July 2026 with a $300 strike price are seeing unusually high volumes, as speculators bet on further gains ahead of the autumn launch.

The near-term path for the stock hinges on pre-order momentum. Disappointing first official sales figures could trigger swift profit-taking given the overbought conditions. Conversely, numbers that exceed expectations would pave the way toward the ambitious price targets already on the table. For now, the narrative remains entirely driven by the countdown to what could be the biggest entertainment launch in history.
