Tesla Inc. is navigating a significant strategic transformation as it faces a second consecutive quarter of declining vehicle deliveries. The company's management is responding with a radical portfolio overhaul, shifting focus from legacy luxury models toward robotics and autonomous services, even as Wall Street analysts trim their annual forecasts.

Quarterly Performance and Market Reaction

The official report for the first quarter of 2026 is anticipated within days. According to the analyst consensus published by Tesla, the market expects approximately 365,600 vehicle deliveries for the period. While this figure represents a marginal improvement over a weak prior-year quarter, it reveals a concerning sequential trend. Compared to the immediately preceding quarter, the projected number signifies a 13% drop, marking the second sequential decline in a row.

This cooling market environment has prompted experts to revise their full-year expectations downward, from 1.75 million to 1.69 million units. Investor uncertainty is being reflected directly in the equity's performance. Shares concluded Friday's trading session at €313.65, registering a decline of 3.18% and extending the year-to-date loss beyond 16%.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Tesla?

A Fundamental Portfolio Reshuffle

In reaction to shifting demand dynamics and intense competition from rivals such as BYD, Tesla is decisively reordering its priorities. Production of the aging Model S and Model X lines is scheduled to be completely phased out by the second quarter of 2026. South Korea has already announced March 31 as the final day for orders. The manufacturing capacity freed by this move is slated to be redirected toward the development of the humanoid Optimus robot.

Concurrently, the company reduced the minimum age requirement for its autonomous robotaxi service from 13 to 8 years this past Friday. This strategic step is aimed at rapidly expanding the potential user base for its autonomous service offerings.

The Road Ahead for Investors

The official delivery report, due by April 2, is expected to set the near-term direction for the stock. For longer-term investors, the perspective is already broadening beyond the core automotive business. Progress in artificial intelligence and speculative scenarios surrounding a potential initial public offering for SpaceX are increasingly moving to the forefront of their investment thesis.
