The VanEck Morningstar Developed Markets Dividend Leaders ETF has entered a sweet spot. Assets under management have swelled to €8.3 billion, shares are hovering just off an all-time high, and the fund just delivered its fattest quarterly distribution ever. But the clearest sign of its shifting fortunes may come from outside its own balance sheet: a brand?new rival from WisdomTree launched on the London Stock Exchange earlier this month, explicitly targeting the same income?hungry audience.

That new competitor, the WisdomTree Global High Dividend ETF, undercuts VanEck on price with a 0.35% annual fee versus VanEck’s 0.38%. More importantly, its strategy diverges sharply. WisdomTree applies a liquidity filter and ESG screen, then scores dividend sustainability using a proprietary risk metric. Pierre Debru, who heads research at the firm, argues that blindly chasing the highest yield carries hidden dangers. The fund holds 300 stocks against VanEck’s 100, promising broader diversification. VanEck counters with a proven ten?year track record and an iron grip on European dividend?ETF market share.

Yet the real catalyst pushing capital into VanEck’s offering has little to do with fee wars. Wall Street is growing uneasy with the trillion?dollar spending spree on artificial intelligence. The Nasdaq climbed nearly 13% in the first half of 2026, but sentiment has turned. Strategists now talk about an “Anything but AI” trade, and institutional players such as JPMorgan are rebuilding positions in high?yielding dividend stocks. The VanEck ETF’s portfolio — concentrated in financials, healthcare, and consumer staples — offers exactly the defensive shelter that tech?weary investors are seeking.

The fund’s June payout of €0.81 per share was a record for the current cycle. Management has guided for total distributions of €1.65 per share this year, implying a yield of roughly 3% (or 3.10% by some measures). That income is underpinned by a rigid index methodology: companies must have raised or maintained dividends for five consecutive years, and the payout ratio cannot exceed 75% of earnings. VanEck then selects the 100 stocks with the highest yields from that qualified pool.

At the close on Wednesday, the ETF traded at €52.88, just 3% below its April record of €54.48. The year?to?date gain stands at 9%, and the fund comfortably sits above its 200?day moving average of €49.74. Volatility has been contained at around 10% — a low?stress profile that suits nervous capital rotating out of high?valuation tech names.

The September quarterly dividend is already on the calendar. With tech skepticism likely to persist into the second half of 2026, the VanEck fund looks set to keep pulling in fresh flows, even as WisdomTree tries to carve out a slice of the same yield?oriented market.
