2G Energy Insiders Step In as Analysts Split on the Cogeneration Specialist
Published on 10/19/2026 at 18:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo insider purchases and a broker upgrade lifted 2G Energy on Monday, but the stock remains far below its summer peak as investors weigh a weak first half against management's reaffirmed full-year targets.
Shares of the combined heat and power (CHP) plant manufacturer changed hands at EUR 48.28 on Monday, up 2.1% on the day, giving the company a market capitalization of EUR 1.02 billion. A separate reading of the session put the gain at 3.6% to EUR 48.96. Either way, the advance was driven by a mixture of insider buying and a more bullish stance from one research house.
Spring Hunter Holdings Leads Insider Buying
The bulk of the recent transactions came from SHH Spring Hunter Holdings GmbH, a vehicle closely tied to supervisory board member Dr. Lukas Lenz. According to the mandatory directors' dealings disclosures, the company acquired shares on Xetra on October 16 across several individual trades at EUR 48.50, EUR 48.96 and EUR 49.00. Purchases from the inner circle of management are traditionally read by the market as a personal vote of confidence in the company's value after volatile stretches.
A second signal came from the executive floor. Board member Friedrich Pehle bought shares through a joint account on October 13 at EUR 56.00, for a total value of EUR 5,600.00.
SMC Research Doubles Down
The upgrade came from SMC Research, which raised its rating from "Buy" to "Strong Buy" and lifted its price target from EUR 80.00 to EUR 82.00. The analysts pointed to the confirmed outlook for full-year 2026 and strong order intake, and dismissed recent market worries about fading momentum in the AI infrastructure boom as unjustified.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying 2G Energy?
Their forecasts are ambitious: revenue growth of 20% to EUR 480 million in 2026, an EBIT margin of 9.8%, and revenue of between EUR 600 million and EUR 650 million targeted for 2027.
A First Half That Tests Patience
Not everyone shares that optimism. On October 15, Parmantier & Cie. GmbH reiterated its sell recommendation with a price target of EUR 39.00, citing the company's key figures and an order backlog of more than EUR 600 million that lacks a breakdown by delivery year.
The half-year report published the same day showed a sharp deterioration in operating performance. Revenue for the first six months reached EUR 136.0 million, down from EUR 169.9 million a year earlier, while earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) fell to EUR 0.8 million from EUR 5.7 million — an EBIT margin of just 0.6%.
Management nonetheless stood by its guidance for full-year 2026, still projecting revenue of between EUR 440 million and EUR 490 million at an EBIT margin of 9.5% to 10.5%.
Headwinds From the AI Narrative
The purchases landed in a period when the decentralised power plant supplier's valuation suffered amid broad market debate over valuations. Doubts about durable growth in the data center and artificial intelligence space have weighed on the entire energy sector. At a capital markets day on October 1, finance chief Friedrich Pehle gave investors a look at the operating side of the business, covering international markets, electrification and procurement.
What Comes Next
Even after Monday's gain, the stock sits 36% below its 52-week high of EUR 76.95, set on July 6, 2026. The coming weeks should shed light on the operating trajectory: 2G Energy has scheduled third-quarter 2026 figures for November 23, 2026, the same day it begins participating in the German Equity Forum, which runs from November 23 to 25, 2026.
For investors, the central question is whether the company's decentralised energy solutions can deliver on its ambitious growth targets on schedule.
