Consortia working on practical healthcare solutions for the Aachen region have a four-month window to secure backing under a programme run by the Aachener Gesellschaft für Innovation und Technologietransfer (AGIT).
Applications for the "Care for Sustainable Innovation" (CSI) initiative opened on 1 October 2026 and close on 31 January 2027, according to a report dated 8 October 2026. The scheme is designed to push forward solutions that can be put to work in the region's health sector rather than remain on the drawing board.
Who Qualifies
Funding is aimed at health innovations with a clear route to practical use or follow-on support. To be eligible, a consortium needs at least two partners, and at least one of them must be an established organisation or company.
A demonstrable link to the Aachen economic region is also required. That catchment takes in the city of Aachen and the StädteRegion Aachen, as well as the neighbouring districts of Düren, Euskirchen and Heinsberg. AGIT leads the project together with its partners.
Money for the programme comes from the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE) and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Partnerships that make the cut receive ongoing specialist support running until the end of 2027 at the latest.
What Earlier Rounds Produced
This third call follows two previous selection rounds. Three health-economy partnerships were chosen at the second jury session, illustrating the kind of cooperation the programme is after:
- Digital self-treatment for CMD: JawBuddy and the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen are developing a digital self-therapy for craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD).
- Software-assisted care planning: A consortium of CLARAPLAN, the St. Gereon Seniorendienste and the Franziskusheim is working on artificial-intelligence-supported care planning.
- Efficiency in medical practice: MediSync, together with a general practitioner's practice, is focused on automated, AI-assisted documentation in day-to-day clinical work.
Selected teams get help refining and validating their concepts so that they can be transferred into clinical or nursing practice more quickly.
By combining expertise from established care providers with that of innovative developer teams, the programme aims to strengthen the quality of care in the region over the long term. Players in the regional health economy have until the end of January 2027 to submit their applications for the current round.
