Allianz Grooms Successor Bench as Berenberg Sticks to 684 Euro Target

Allianz shares changed hands at 418.70 euros on Friday, a gain of 0.6% on the day, leaving the Munich insurer about 7.9% below its 52-week peak of 454.50 euros set on 3 September 2026. The quiet tape belies a busy stretch of product launches, boardroom appointments and capital-allocation decisions that together sketch out how management intends to run the business into 2027.
Two Houses, Two Very Different Views on Value
Analysts are split on what the stock is worth. Berenberg confirmed its buy rating on 29 September with a price target of 684 euros, according to media reports — a level that implies substantial upside from current trading. Jefferies takes a far more cautious line. Analyst Philip Kett raised his target to 440 euros from 420 euros but kept a hold rating, pointing to the group's practice of ploughing realised gains from its Indian joint venture straight into fixed-income securities. That shift into interest-bearing assets underpins earnings in a changed rate environment, though it does not excite Kett enough to move off the sidelines.
Fresh Products Target the Mass Market
On the retail side, Allianz Versicherungs-AG unveiled a legal protection offer on Monday aimed at consumers who have never held a conventional policy. For 8.90 euros a year, customers who sign up online get access to as many as two telephone consultations with external partner lawyers — a low-threshold play for loyalty in the mass market. It follows the "MeinKrankenhausschutz" tariff introduced on 1 October by Allianz Private Krankenversicherungs-AG, which comes in three tiers and lets existing policyholders switch into the new terms without a fresh health check, provided they meet certain conditions.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?
A Wave of Leadership Changes Across the Group
Personnel moves are stacking up across the group's units. Philipp Kroetz takes the helm at Allianz Partners on 1 November 2026, succeeding Tomas Kunzmann, who joins the board of Allianz SE on 1 January 2027. Laurent Floquet steps in to lead Allianz Direct from 1 November 2026, filling the vacancy left by Kroetz.
In German distribution, Sören Kupke assumes the board role for sales at Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG and the broker distribution portfolio at Allianz Private Krankenversicherungs-AG on 1 January 2027. Thomas Wiesemann, his predecessor, leaves both boards on 31 December 2026 and retires. At Allianz Suisse, Dr. Verena Jäger takes over from Monika Behr on 1 January 2027.
Industrial Claims Bill Puts Risk in Focus
Operational risk in the core business remains a weighty theme. Allianz Commercial examined business interruption losses across industry and found that 7,888 recorded claims between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2025 added up to roughly 6.74 billion euros. The average claim topped 850,000 euros — about 70% higher than the associated property damage of just under 500,000 euros. The scale of those payouts highlights the need for cover against complex interruption exposures.
What November Will Reveal
Hard numbers arrive next month. Allianz publishes third-quarter 2026 results on 12 November, giving investors their first clear read on how strongly new business in life and health insurance has fed through to the figures. For now, the combination of predictable interest income, a refreshed product shelf and continuity at key junctions of the group gives shareholders plenty to weigh before that update lands.
