Allianz Merges Two Funds, Signs Greek Bancassurance Deal and Flags EUR 730 Billion Investment Gap
Published on 10/20/2026 at 06:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deAllianz is pressing ahead on several fronts at once this month, combining fund consolidation, a Greek minority stake sale and a German sales leadership handover, while its research arm argues that mobilising private capital could help close Germany's investment shortfall versus the United States.
The most immediate operational step comes from Allianz Global Investors, which is folding Allianz Food Security and Allianz Positive Change into Allianz Clean Planet. The merger of the three funds is scheduled for today, consolidating previously separate offerings under a single vehicle. It is a product decision distinct from the group's insurance distribution changes.
New German Household Cover, Four Tiers
On the insurance side, Allianz Versicherungs-AG rolled out a revamped household contents policy on 12 October, structured around four tariff lines and available for both new and replacement business. Optional add-on modules and varying deductibles round out the choice. Where the fund merger streamlines the range, the household product moves in the opposite direction, putting flexibility inside a single contract.
Greece: A Signed Contract, Not Yet a Closed Deal
Allianz's Greek initiative pairs a stake sale with a distribution tie-up. On 14 October the insurer and the National Bank of Greece signed a binding purchase agreement under which the bank acquires a 30% minority interest in Allianz European Reliance, also known as Allianz Greece. The two partners simultaneously agreed a long-term exclusive bancassurance arrangement.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?
Closing the share purchase remains subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approvals, while the partnership is slated to begin in early 2027. That distinction matters for anyone assessing the transaction: a signed contract is not a completed divestment.
Sales Reorganisation Awaits Regulatory Clearance
In Germany, Allianz Deutschland announced on 7 October that Sören Kupke is to take charge of the sales divisions at Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG and Allianz Private Krankenversicherungs-AG effective 1 January 2027. His appointment hinges on the supervisory authority's fit-and-proper review. Thomas Wiesemann will leave both boards at the end of the year and retire.
Research Arm Puts a Number on the Gap
The policy paper published Friday by Allianz Research frames the investment shortfall as an opportunity rather than purely a lag. Since 2019, Germany has trailed the US on investment by as much as EUR 730 billion, according to the study, which cites reform and the mobilisation of private capital as potential levers. Board member Andreas Wimmer put Allianz's own German investments at roughly EUR 100 billion, underscoring that the topic carries a company-specific dimension alongside the macroeconomic one.
Jefferies Lifts Target on India Proceeds
A more concrete read on capital deployment came from Jefferies on 8 October, when the broker raised its Allianz price target to EUR 440 from EUR 420 while keeping a "Hold" rating. Analyst Philip Kett tied the revision to the use of realised gains from the Indian joint venture, which should allow accelerated reinvestment in fixed-income securities. He also flagged potential losses across the sector given bond-market volatility, so the higher target pairs reinvestment upside with capital-market risk.
November 12 as the Next Yardstick
The next scheduled financial release is 12 November, when Allianz reports third-quarter 2026 results. Until then, attention centres on execution: the fund consolidation, the approvals needed for the Greek stake purchase and the prepared sales leadership change.
